I feel so guilty

I'm 11 weeks 4 days pregnant and it's my first pregnancy. I have had really bad nausea and vomiting to the point I was hospitalised and told I have hyperemsis.

I feel so guilty for enjoying my pregnancy at all, not one bit, I'm hating it and honestly get to the point some days where I really wish I wasn't pregnant.

I'm starting to worry it's not going to go away for the whole pregnancy and it's really putting me in a bad place thinking that might happen 😔

Hi OP

First of all, congratulations on your pregnancy!
Sorry to hear you're not having a great time of it. Please don't feel guilty about it at all though. Pregnancy isn't a "one size fits all" for women. Every pregnancy is different. Some women go through with no issues at all, some have varying symptoms, some have a tough time throughout. There seems to be a cultural thing about pregnancy being amazing, beautiful, that "glow" that everyone talks about. Meanwhile, the mum is there feeling so sick, emotions all over the place, weird cravings and trying to feel so happy and grateful for the blessing that is pregnancy.
You're NOT alone - there are so many threads on here about women who have struggled throughout pregnancy with nausea etc - look at Princess Catherine - pretty sure she had hyperemesis gravidarum in all her pregnancies did she not?

Put it this way...you're growing a human being inside your body...it's a big deal and your body is just adjusting to that. It might take a while, it might even take the whole pregnancy, but there's no need to feel guilty about how you feel about it. Don't be afraid to reach out for support with the nausea and your emotions (don't forget hormones are playing a BIG role just now).

Hang in there, you've got this!

The first trimester is hard, symptoms will ease and it will get better.

But equally, you may not enjoy your pregnancy, and that's okay if you don't. Pregnancy isn't the glitz and glam it's made out to be. It's about the destination, not the journey.

I HATED pregnancy. Absolutely despised it. Every moment was filled with anxiety and misery, I hated my body and felt physically terrible from 4 weeks all the way up until birth, but the moment I held my baby in my arms I knew that I would do it a million times over for him.

Sending love x

Hated all my pregnancies. It's just a means to an end for the adorable child. Hope things get better xx

You've had a rough time , it's normal that your not ecstatic to be feeling so bad. I'm only 7 weeks and quite sick and I'm definitely not jumping for joy. Pregnancy can be a hard slog for some women

When you start feeling the baby kick you it's the best feeling in the world. I loved feeling my daughter kick me and my belly move when I played her music etc. it makes the pregnancy feel more real at that stage well it did for me. I also had sickness from week 3 all the way up to the morning I gave birth
It gets better sit tight x

Very hard to enjoy anything OP when your constantly that sick so please don't feel guilty , have they prescribed you anything for the sickness ?

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 16/11/2024 06:46

Congratulations OP. It's perfectly fine and normal not to enjoy pregnancy. Many women don't. Fingers crossed you're just having a tough first trimester and you'll start to feel better soon.
