New pregnancy?

Hi all, I had a MC 6 weeks ago at 7 weeks. Over the past the last week, I've been having on/off cramping, bleeding (not enough to fill a pad), hot flashes and for the last two days feeling dizzy/fatigue. I did a pregnancy test on the 4th which was faint positive, but while at the drs on the 6th I mentioned the positive test. He tested me and said "negative, but faint positive" and told me to keep testing. The dr also told me he thinks it's previous HCG. I tested after a few days and the lines have become darker. I did a did two clear blue digitals 7 days apart. One said pregnant 2-3 and then the other pregnant 3+. Since then the pink dye test have become darker instantly after doing them. I did a clear blue blue test today and it was way darker than on the 4th. Could this be HCG lingering? I'm thinking it's residual tissue and that it could lead to an infection. I called my Dr but there are no appointments until next Friday. So I'm a bit stressed over this.

I would recommend booking a private scan x

If it is a new pregnancy, can you date it? Did you have a period since the mc, or if not did you record the dates you got the 2-3 and the 3+ on the digi? They're not super accurate but will give you a guide. No point going for a scan until you'd be far enough along to see anything. If you want a scan perhaps book one for a week after the digi said 3+ - assuming it's a new pregnancy they will definitely be able to see it by then.

Liuwa · 15/11/2024 15:00

@MightyMichaela No, I don't think I can. I'm not sure if I've had an actual period. Yes, I have the dates that I did the digitals 2-3 was on the 8th and the 3+ was taken on the 13th. Next Wednesday will be 7 weeks post. So I'm planning on doing another test to see if the line will be possibly faint by then. I think I'd prefer to get blood test first, it's quicker and to see what levels my HCG is at. I also today had strange twinge spasms in the middle of my lower belly (no pain). I had similar feeling during the first pregnancy. But I know pms and pregnancy symptoms can be so similar and that my hormones could be unstable right now.

So 2-3 on the 8th = 4-5 weeks pregnant
3+ on 13th Nov = at least 5 weeks pregnant.
I agree, by Wed 20th you'd be at least 6 weeks pregnant and possibly closer to 7. A scan then would certainly confirm pregnancy and you might see a heartbeat.
But HCG is much quicker and easier I agree. I only suggested a scan because you said you couldn't get a GP appointment. But if you can that's definitely the way to go.

@MightyMichaela

Oh wow, I guess that would be correct. With my first pregnancy I found out really early. Because the conception indicator increased. Do you you think it's likely that I'm pregnant? Everything I've read up on says tests should be getting lighter. The receptionist called me back and gave me an appointment for Wednesday instead. I was told I have to see a GP first to be considered for a scan.

Yes, it seems reasonable to think there's a good possibility it's a new pregnancy. I can't see why the weeks indicator would increase otherwise. BUT women's bodies are very strange, so I wouldn't be confident until I'd had a scan. Obviously you are also bleeding, and while there can be 'harmless' reasons for that in early pregnancy, it is also a bit of a worry. Bear in mind that bleeding can happen with ectopics, so if you don't get a scan to confirm location just keep other symptoms of ectopic pregnancy at the front of your mind and be aware.

I hope it all turns out well for you.

Did you get any negative tests after your miscarriage?
When I had my miscarriage they monitored my HCG until it was just over normal then said to do a pregnancy test a week later. If it was positive they would had done further tests. It took me 3 and a bit weeks to get the negative test. A friend of mine was testing positive for 3 months as it took a long time for all of it to pass.
Ask for you HCG to be monitored and a scan. If it's increasing, especially doubling in 48h it's likely to be a new pregnancy and they will see this on a scan. If it's level or dropping it might be the old pregnancy and after this length of time you might need some investigation to see if there is any retained material and that explains why you still are testing positive.

I would probably be talking to your local epu rather than your GP in this situation

Liuwa · 15/11/2024 20:44

@MightyMichaela

True, all I can do is wait to find out I guess.

Thanks

@Superscientist

I did a low sensitivity test, which was negative, it was taken on the 15th of October.
I wasn't monitored for HCG on blood tests. I wouldn't mind if I kept testing faint positive and saw it decreasing. I'm just really confused at this point. I wasn't even far along in the pregnancy either. Yeah, I've heard it can take 8 weeks for some people to test negative, but only that the lines are faint or nearly gone. I will, I have an appointment this Wednesday, so I'll be asking then for a HCG test.

I might call and ask them.

Since you had a negative test and now are testing positive I think it's more likely to be a new pregnancy.
I would still give your epu a call. Depending on your area they might get you in for a scan. I'm nearly 7 weeks in my pregnancy post miscarriage and I'm having an early scan at the epu next week. It's varied whether you get this after 1, 2 or 3 miscarriages but you don't know unless you ask.

Liuwa · 18/11/2024 12:16

@Superscientist
I think so, but part of me thinks it's left over HCG too. I did tests again today, the cheap one I think has come up stronger? I've been feeling really dizzy and lightheaded where I have to sit down. It seems to be constantly now. I have Dr appt today in the evening. Aww congrats ❤️
