Period like cramps at night 4 days before scheduled c section

Hello everyone,

I am pregnant with my first who is currently in frank breech position. I also have diet controlled Gestational Diabetes. I am scheduled for a c-section on Monday but I think I am starting to get signs that my body is preparing for labour. Obviously because this is my first I’m not sure what I am feeling and whether or not to worry or not. Because of baby’s positioning I assume they would want to schedule me for an emergency c section if I went into active labour but I’m wondering if I can get some advice from mothers who can tell me whether what I am feeling is a cause for concern or does this happen weeks before labour too?

Not only have I been quite gassy and going to the toilet very regularly and suddenly. (Body clearing out?) During the last couple of nights I have been experiencing period like cramps pretty much all night. Nothing too painful but just the feeling I usually get before my period is about to start. They are continuous so not in waves or anything like that and when I wake up they stop and I go the rest of my day as usual.

Thanks :-)

It could be Braxton Hicks. But it could also be your body gearing up for labour. It’s a bit hard to tell really.
I just know that my labour started with period like cramps.
Have you called your maternity unit / midwife / hospital etc? They may want you to go in and be monitored and check if you’re dilating at all etc.
Best to get checked out just incase.

I would definitely go in and get checked out OP. Frank breech is the best breech position for a natural delivery, however my baby was in that position right through, I brushed off the very symptoms you are having all day and ended up fully dilated having an EMCS that evening as baby had changed to footling breech. This was 6 months ago and I still get stressed thinking what could have happened.

How are you getting on OP?

Sounds like it could be braxton hicks but id be very alert to them getting more frequent or stronger in intensity. Very similar to pp, DD2 had been in a frank breech position since 28w when 3 days before my ELCS, she decided it was time to make an appearance. I went to get checked out and less than 4hrs later she was here (and not only that but she had turned head down inbetween my last scan at 39+1 so was a vaginal delivery at 39+3). No harm in getting checked out if you are worried!
