Spotting

Hi, I’m 5 weeks and 6 days pregnant. I’ve been having spotting for the last 3 days. It started off pink then went black and stringy (sorry for TMI), now it’s a brown / red. I’ve got no pain. I’ve also got no pregnancy symptoms whatsoever.

I’ve got a 3 year old and I didn’t have any spotting when I was pregnant last time, but I had the most horrendous nausea by this point in my last pregnancy, of which I’ve got none this time.

I phoned the midwife at the birthing unit but they won’t see you unless you are 7-8 weeks. I was told to go to my GP for a blood test. The EPU by me is by referral from a midwife or GP only.

I've got a doctors appointment for Friday but I’m going out of my mind with worry. Could this have a happy ending or does it sound like a miscarriage? I’m 40 and we have been TTC for 2 years, so I think this really is last chance saloon for me!

Hello. Today the spotting has turned heavier like a period. I’ve called the midwife again and they have booked me into the EPU in an week. Apparently they won’t scan me until 7 weeks, I am 6 weeks today.

I guess I just want to know if anyone has had heavy bleeding and gone on to have a successful pregnancy. I.e. was it anything other than a miscarriage for you?

TIA

Sorry you’re going through this, bleeding in pregnancy is so worrying but you do see stories of people who did still have a healthy pregnancy.

I had bleeding in two pregnancies which didn’t have good outcomes, but a friend of mine had almost consistent heavy bleeding from early on until around 10 weeks, which they found to be a haematoma. Hopefully your doctors will be able to refer you to EPU for some further investigation.
