Elbowed in tummy by a child

Hi I’m a primary school teacher, and today I was accidentally elbowed in the tummy by an 8-year-old child. She was pushed by someone else and ended up elbowing me. I called triage and went in for an assessment. The baby's heartbeat was fine, but they didn't check anything else, saying that I just need to monitor things for now. They don’t think it’s serious.
I'm so scared and don't know what to expect. Can it hurt the baby or damage the placenta? When can I stop worrying about it if no symptoms appear?

I’m 20.5 weeks pregnant. Thank you🙏

Hey, you should be fine. I hit my bump on a metal bit of a chair in a cafe when I was about 30 weeks, trying to scooch between tables and it really hurt. Baby was absolutely fine. Give it 48 hours and go for another check if it will give peace of mind.

You're fine, baby's in the womb are very well protected.

Hi, I'm sure it will all be OK. Great that you got checked out and baby's heartrate was fine.

I'm 20+5 with a 4 year old DD. I seem to be getting accidentally elbowed or knee'd every single day, no matter how careful I try to be. I've also got low blood pressure and fainted a couple of weeks ago and fell yesterday (both times face forwards!)

I just try to calm myself down by reminding myself how well cushioned and protected baby is in there.

Baby will be absolutely fine and is well cushioned in there. I was attacked by a patient at 23/24 weeks, I was repeatedly kicked and hit in the abdomen. It was horrendous and I was terrified that I had lost her. I had a scan that day but she was totally fine and sucking her thumb in there! Had no problems with the pregnancy and she is now nearly 2 and healthy.

Please try not to worry, easier said than do though I know.

Goodness, that's awful and must have been so scary for you!
Pleased all was OK
