Sweep or no sweep?

hi all! I’m aware this is completely personal preference but I’m undecided and interested in others opinions.
currently 39+3 and have community midwife appointment tomorrow where I’ll be offered a sweep, in a bit of a dilemma at the moment with this.
mainly feeling guilty that I’m actually not ‘full term’ ( at due date) and am I doing the wrong thing trying to force labour early? The only reason I’m tempted is another appointment wouldn’t be available until 40+4 with my trust then inducing at 41 weeks so doesn’t leave much time for action / further sweeps and really keen to avoid induction.
(I know many will say induction can’t be forced and completely agree however having had family history of poorly overdue babies I can’t bring myself to go against advice)
what would you do?
thankyou!!

I'd have one!! I'll be getting one at 39 weeks. It's not like having a full blown induction where you're in hospital.
They are painful though, be warned x

Thanks!
I had one in my last pregnancy and I remember feeling like the midwife’s hand puppet 😂

I would have one. I honestly don't think they do anything unless your body is pretty much ready anyway

I had two at 39 weeks whilst waiting for induction slot. One on the Tuesday and the second on the Thursday. Labour kicked off Sunday night.

I agree with PP that they're unlikely to do anything if your body isn't ready, I'd certainly have them again

I wouldn't but personally I wouldn't accept induction either at 41 weeks. If there was medical need for baby to be out I'd be going for a c section. If there was no medical need I'd wait it out. I appreciate you have reasons though.

I wouldn't bother if i was to have another baby. With my 2nd DD I was offered them from 39 weeks. I wasn't going to even think about having one until 40+ weeks but I had bad sciatica and PGP and just wanted baby out. I had 3 in the end and they made no difference other than caused me pain and made me bleed after each one which was stressful trying to determine what was normal and to be expected and what wasn't. I wouldn't put myself through that again!

I'd have one, yes.

I remember not wanting a sweep before 40 weeks with my 1st baby. I was due to have one at 40+8 but luckily it wasn't needed and she arrived on her own.

I would say as it's not your first baby then just remember things can progress a bit quicker 2nd time round so it may not be needed.

Good luck OP ☺️
