Should i wait for a scan?

I found out I was pregnant on 1/11 with a very faint test and a 1-2 weeks clear blue. I wanted to book in a private scan but I’m not sure if I should wait to avoid a false scare. I’ve read a few posts that people have not been far enough along to see anything so end up more stressed that something has happened.

my last period was 02/10 and I had an LH surge on 22/10. We were active on 20th and 23rd so around those dates I know I ovulated.

I booked a scan for 16/11 but I’m starting to think its too early for reassurance and I don’t want to scare myself after, but also looking for just some reassurance now. (I also realise that if something is to happen it will happen - even after reassurance but it just helps a little at the start and helps me feel connected)

my last pregnancy I had a scan around 9/10 weeks so they could see clearly. But my cycles are longer PP.

thanks!

Hey, congratulations!
I had an early scan on Saturday at 6w4d and saw a little bean with a heartbeat! It was great reassurance as all in the right place etc! Good luck 🩷💙

LH surge on 22nd, so you likely ovulated on 23rd? If so, by 16th Nov you'd be about 5+3. I believe they'll be able to locate the pregnancy and see a couple of details but that's about it. Is that enough reassurance for you? If you wait until 7-8 weeks you will see a heartbeat - would that be better?

@Rabbitmad89 congratulations! ❤️ my tracker says I would be 6 weeks 4 days but I’m not sure I will be classed as that far along due to my cycle length! However, I’m not sure how to calculate the actual estimated due date from mine. I’m so torn whether to wait a week or two but its so lovely seeing them 🥹

@FreyaZebra thats what I’m thinking, should I leave it a week or two so I can see the heartbeat too and feel more reassured I think! Thank you for your message 😊

Maybe wait a few more days/a week if you can! I was meant to be 7 weeks based on my period but measured 3 days behind (which was unsurprising as I track my temp so was pretty certain when I ovulated) so just be prepared you may be a little earlier than you think! X

If you’ve had no problems before I would wait until the scan. I’ve had two early scans with heartbeats that sadly miscarried, so it can give you false hope.

Jhug1 · 11/11/2024 17:11

I’m so sorry to hear that, I hope you got/get your rainbow baby 🌈❤️

Hi OP, definitely try and wait a few more weeks if you can!

It's unlikely you'll see anything at all at 5 weeks, maybe an empty gestational sac if you're lucky but nothing that will tell you if the pregnancy is viable or not.

I had a scan at 6+1 and could see the embryo and heartbeat which was great but the reassurance was short lived as weeks 6-8 are one of the riskiest times for miscarriage so I knew it didn't actually mean anything.
The scan I had at 8+2 was much better - more to see, stronger heartbeat and the odds of miscarriage after seeing a healthy heartbeat after 8 weeks drop significantly.

I know there are never any guarantees in pregnancy but this second scan was much more reassuring for me.

Hello, thank you for your advice! I moved the scan to the 30th November (I’ll be 8+3) and may even push it back another week depending how I am feeling over the next couple of weeks! 🤞🏻

Hello, sorry to jump back on this post (not sure if anyone will even see this).

I’ve really been struggling over the last few days and I have tried to push the scan back as far as possible but I feel like I need some peace of mind.. to my maths according to ovulation (approx 24/10) I should be 7+6 tomorrow (according to last period 8+6). Should they be able to see a heartbeat tomorrow? That is what I need for reassurance and to stop my anxiety going mad!

Sorry to hear you’re struggling, I totally get it. I was completely the same and have already had 2 scans because of pure anxiety!

My first was 6w4d and the heartbeat could be seen and then the second at 8w3d where again heartbeat was seen and bean had doubled in size.

Sending you lots of love and hope you have a wonderful experience too xx

Thank you @Rabbitmad89 ! ❤️ I struggled a lot with my first baby too. And totally forget how hard pregnancy is mentally (even though it was only a year ago 🥲) I’m hoping for some peace tomorrow, at least until my 12 week scan! Xx
