IVF FET mixed home test results but hcg rising

This is my first time posting

I am currently undergoing ivf and had FET on the 24th. 9 days later I had a positive pregnancy test using clear blue but then had some negatives with some cheap brands used.

I had bloods done last week Tuesday and my hcg was 35. Nurse didn’t confirm I was pregnant but that they wanted to repeat bloods hours later and this had increased to 60.

I did a pregnancy test on the morning of the second bloods and this was negative.
Consultant called me after second bloods and said they’ve referred me to the early pregnancy unit and I have an appointment Monday. She said they wanted to make sure things were in right place and not risk of ectopic etc. No one has actually confirmed if I’m pregnant or not at this point just to mention.

I then spoke with another consultant yesterday who said they wouldn’t have referred to EPU as not concerned with the results and would have waited until my 6 week scan on the 21st.

I’m completely confused as to why I am getting negative pregnancy tests yet my hcg is 60 at last bloods? I don’t dare test again as fear it will be negative. Also a local EPU nurse I spoke with said it’s likely I have miscarried if I’m getting negative tests after a positive? But consultants are telling me to ignore home kits.

Anyone with a similar experience?

Hiya, sorry you're going through this it's a horrible and anxiety provoking time. I had a pregnancy which hcg test came back at 67 and my consultant emailed me to say that she thought it was unfortunately a failing pregnancy. I think she said that because the number was low. Anyway she was right and a few days later I got a late period. To put it in context, my hcg with my successful pregnancy last year was 741, and I'm pregnant again and my hcg was 602. I hope it all works out for you but it sounds like you might have had a chemical pregnancy x

@browneyedgirl626 - thanks for your reply. This is what I’m preparing for but from what I have read and I have read a lot over the last week! - BMI (I’m over 30) and late implantation can result with lower hcg at the beginning. My hcg didn’t double but it rose by 75% so think this is why last consultant said they were happy with this. Also the ranges are wide in the beginning weeks too.

I just don’t understand the pregnancy test issue because most tests will pick up over 25 hcg. I’m just really confused in that respect.

Tomorrow is nearly here so hoping for a definitive answer then. The uncertainty is killing me at the moment!

Blood level hcg is different to urine level hcg - plus no two women metabolises hcg in their system the same way which can lead to these kind of results

Unfortunately OP id say to be realistic of the result if your hcg was at 35 at 9dp5dt as at that level my clinic would have considered it at very high risk of failure x

@notbeenagreatday
Thanks for your reply. Yes I’m prepared for that but no one has said this to me yet. This embryo has been on freeze for nearly 10 years and was a day 5 blastocyst on transfer. I read sometimes FET over fresh take a bit longer to warm up and implant. I guess only tomorrow will really tell. Both my other two FETs were successful, no issues with either pregnancies, and both natural deliveries with no interventions. But I was 26 and 29 at the time for those two and also bmi under 30. I’m now 36 and three stone heavier so I know I’m already at increased risk in that respect. I just didn’t want to leave this embryo behind so wanted to give it a shot.

Would have been so much easier if it was just a straight negative instead of mixed bag of results and conflicting opinion depending on who you speak with.

@Shannonmai Mine was 60 in the evening at 9dp5dt. My clinic wanted it to be 50 or more for FET (100 for fresh) and I had a successful pregnancy. Sounds encouraging that you went from 35 to 60 on the same day. Time of thaw/transfer and it being a frozen transfer all makes a difference to the numbers. Good luck OP.

@Purplepumkins thanks for the reply.

Sorry I’m probably not being clear so just to clarify.

FET was 24th Oct. First set of bloods was 12 days post transfer which was 35. Then second bloods done on day 14 post transfer which was 60.

I’m happy you had a positive outcome. I think I was slightly naive thinking this would be the same as my last two. The issue of infertility is also on my husbands side. They are as laid back as him and don’t want to make the swim! So we had icsi for our embryos :)
