Advice after hematoma

I had a scan on Thursday which showed me a wonderful 7 week old fluttering heartbeat, but then ended up in A&E with severe cramps and gushing blood 24 hours later. Miraculously still had a beating heartbeat when I was scanned, and told I’d developed a hematoma since the previous day (ivf pregnancy and clinic can’t see anything on that scan).

Question is, for those who have had this happen, what advice were you given around management? Consultant at the hospital said two weeks off work and “take it easy”, while ivf clinic just said avoid strenuous exercise classes. I’m erring on the side of caution- not least of all because it’s our last embryo from ivf 🥺 but don’t want to be silly by just laying on the sofa all day!

I took a week off work and rested at 9 weeks...I had had a miscarriage a few years before so I wasnt chancing anything. My advice get a week at least off work and chill...watch tv, read and relax.

also they told me the hematoma could have neen a twin.

Hi OP,

I’m 23 weeks pregnant and had a hematoma this pregnancy and it disappeared by the time I had my 12 week scan … from what I’ve read and from my friends who have had a hematoma too it usually does.

nonetheless it was so scary at the time. I found out I was pregnant and started bleeding at around 5 weeks and had a scan. They said all was fine and they invited me back for another at 8 and at 10. But before the 10 week scan (and we were in Tenerife and had been to a water park - so how is that for management advice?! 😂) I had a bright red heavy bleed and even passed a considerable clot so much so I thought I’d passed baby …. So scary. We saw a consultant in Tenerife who was surprised we had even gone away - although I didn’t do anything on holiday a pregnant woman shouldn’t do - but no one mentioned anything I should or shouldn’t do.

we had had sex 😳, I’d been working, doing housework, lifting my nearly four year old … it seems really naive now. But I hope my experience gives you hope lovely.

I had continuously bleeding from 5 weeks until 11 weeks - albeit mostly light but it was everyday and then passed clots and did so much I probably shouldn’t have. And baby is kicking away in my belly right now. ❤️

I was given progesterone by the hospital in Tenerife. Forgive my ignorance but have you been prescribed that, as you had IVF? :) I’ve heard it helps.

Mine happened 11 years ago now (during a holiday in Las Vegas) as my “baby” is 11 in December but I was told complete pelvic rest, 2 weeks bed rest and to generally take it as easy as possible.

Thanks all that’s really helpful!
I’ve got another scan scheduled on the 19th so I’ll err on the side of caution until then and go from there. I have a job that requires moving around so I’ll take off for two weeks as suggested and hopefully things will resolve asap.
Yes @HappyGoLucky31 I am already on progesterone pessaries and injections!
