Hand foot and mouth third trimester

Evening,

I’m a primary school teacher currently 32 weeks pregnant. There have been 2 confirmed and 2 suspected cases of hand foot and mouth in my class this week. I’m terrified I’m going to get it and it’s going to cause a stillbirth as I read somewhere that’s a possibility. Does anyone have any experience with hand foot and mouth in the third trimester? Just want to pack work in now :(

Don't know where you read that, don't think it's true. There's a risk you can spread to the newborn but your midwife can advise, call them if you're really worried.

Just seen it in a few places online. Most say (like you) it should be fine but I am highly anxious and paranoid with this pregnancy anyway so I do focus on the negatives unfortunately… I have already asked my midwife and she said good hygiene and avoid contact. Avoiding contact is impossible as I teach young children and don’t know which of them could be infected already. I’m in a bit of a spiral now that I’ve already got it and it will harm my baby. I just wanted to see if anyone else has caught it or been exposed to it in late pregnancy and been fine, for my own peace of mind.

I’m 34 weeks and my 2 year old had an awful case of hand foot and mouth all last/this week. I’ve spoke to doctors , midwives/consultants and they’ve all told me there’s not much they can do, just aslong as don’t get a fever I can’t control, they didn’t seem concerned

luckily I haven’t caught it off her yet , she’s been stuck to me as she is very sick and only wants me, as you can imagine I’ve got all the coughs directly over me.. they told me some people are immune, it’s more the risk of baby coming and getting infected.

My toddlers just had it for the 2/3 rd time, I'm in my 3rd trimester also. Didn't even cross my mind to be worried , just a normal virus as far as I'm aware so I wouldn't panic.

Understood but really think it's fine except for some risk during birth - the risk of a fever is higher in first trimester and if you do get hfm just call the MAU and take their advice. I totally understand your anxiety though!
