Ectopic?

Hi
So as I'm currently waiting until next week to figure out results I said I'd ask has anyone ever heard anything like this before? So I went to hospital this week at about 6 weeks pregnant bleeding and cramping, my HCG dropped from 226 to 125 in 48 hours and now 48 hours later have gone back up to 225! I'm still bleeding heavily and cramping has eased slightly. I'm so confused the nurse said it's rare for hcg to drop even in a ectopic pregnancy! Has anyone any stories or idea of what the outcome could be?

Hi, I don't want to scare you as it is good you're being monitored. But yes during my ectopic earlier this year, that was my main symptom (HCG dropping then rising). the EPU doctor told me HCG dropping and rising is typical of Ectopic. So I don't know why they told you otherwise.

Mine was 60, went to 80, dropped to 57, went up to 90, dropped again. If it was simply not doubling, they would suspect miscarriage/nonviable pregnancy, but the up and down is typical of ectopic. The entire time I also bled. I ended up having methotrextate (injection) to remove the pregnancy, and I continued to bleed until my HCG was 0 weeks later.

Have they given you a scan yet?

Also I should say the bleeding would slow down and speed up completely randomly. Sometimes would be heavy, then back to spotting, sometimes red, sometimes very dark brown. The 'no rhyme or reason' is also typical of ectopic. So if you see the blood 'easing up' please still follow up until you have a scan. I had very little cramping, so that wasn't even my main symptom. Because I pushed for scans/bloods I was able to avoid surgery at the time.

I'm so worried now I'm so scared it's going to affect my chances of having kids! They done a scan today and my uterus was clear and looked to be going natural for a miscarriage until she seen my HCG go up 100 again!

I started with a little more than spotting and I went through contractions yesterday morning and I have bled heavily since. ive to go back to a&e Sunday morning for more bloods! I'm so scared!

They also couldn't see anything in my uterus but hcg was still going up and down - that means ectopic or pregnancy of unknown location. They should be giving you treatment asap. For me they took repeat bloods 3-4 times before they offered me which treatment I wanted. Bloods were taken every 2 days, so they monitored me about a week before treatment. If you get any sudden sharp pain or bleeding gets very heavy go back immediately.

Also don't worry about your chances of having kids - it doesn't affect this at all. I am now almost 6 weeks pregnant, with the very first cycle after my ectopic. (I didn't have a period for 3 months, then finally had a cycle and got pregnant again). I have had an early scan and this one is not ectopic.

Having an ectopic pregnancy will increase your chances of having another in future, but it won't affect your ability to have a healthy pregnancy.

It sounds like they are monitoring you correctly, don't be scared. As long as you are not rupturing, you also have the chance to be medically managed. It is good they are seeing you early. Either way you are on top of it. <3 In the mean time just try to relax until Sunday, know that this isn't your fault and won't affect your future chances, and that you are in safe hands. If any sudden pain increases or anything changes that seems worrying, go to a&e. <3
