Needing advice. Attended the 20 week scan - babies healthy! Recieved news that i have a placenta previa - ive previously had a elective section but been reffered to see the specialists in 3 weeks time to see if the placenta has attached itself to previous section scar. Was given alot of information & worst case scenarios! Can anyone help ease my worry & has anyone had something similar? Im worried that i wont get that first initial time when my babies born if worst case scenario is a hysterectomy.

I'm sorry you're going through this worry OP it's a very stressful time for you I'm sure. I suppose it's hard to advise as each scenario is very different. Wait and see what the specialist team say. Unfortunately accretas are getting a lot more common due to the c section rate, but that also means that teams are getting better at operating on them. At the unit I work in they've gotten so skilled that in the majority of cases now they manage to keep the uterus. Of course depends on the case and severity. Being with baby straight away of course depends on your condition and also at what gestation they would need to deliver you. It's really hard for you because a lot of these questions can't be answered straight away as they will need to see over time how it's all looking. Just remember, you haven't been diagnosed with an accreta yet and may never be! And your lovely little baby is doing great. You'll be well counselled and prepared for everything by your specialist team if it comes to it. Best of luck with everything.

Thank you for getting back to me I really appreciate it. Your right, I may contact with an update after Ive seen the specialists in 3 weeks time. But this message has reassured me to a degree. I’m still in the processing stages & just trying to gather as much information as possible so that I’m able to digest & come to terms with the situation I’m facing. I think it’s tough when you already have a little one to take care of it’s scary given the information & how it was delievered to me.

No problem at all. Just to add there are lots of accreta support groups out there, you'll find them online. I wouldn't personally go there just yet as it may be quite overwhelming until you've gotten more definitive info from your team. I really hope all goes as smoothly as possible for you.
