Chances of conceiving after ellaOne

Thanks in advance for any help I receive. So my periods are irregular and after having unprotected sex last cycle I took the morning after pill (ellaOne) which caused really heavy bleeding shortly after taking it. I then had a blood test to determine whether I had fallen pregnant in case the bleeding was from an ectopic pregnancy. The blood test showed I wasn't pregnant so the bleeding was probably just my period. I was told to use other methods of contraception in the meantime but after having a conversation with my partner we would like to start trying. I'm having signs of ovulation and have had sex in the last 24 hours but just wondered whether it's possible to become pregnant so soon after taking the morning after pill or whether my body would need more time to adjust?

Emergency hormonal contraception works by delaying ovulation to allow any sperm in the vagina to die off before ovulation occurs. If taken after ovulation it will have no effect. If you have an irregular cycle it would be really difficult to predict if you were in the pre-ovulation phase of your cycle and so all but impossible to say whether Ella One had delayed ovulation. But it definitely will not have any effect beyond the cycle you took it in, for instance if you had had unprotected sex again and did not want to conceive you would need another dose. It may be better to check out what is causing your irregular cycle, that is more likely to affect your chances of conception than a single dose of Ella One.
Remember it can take up to a year to conceive naturally too.

If you ovulate there's a chance of pregnancy, wait 2 weeks and take a pregnancy test. If that's negative test again 2 days later.
