Screening test results - “high risk”

Hi guys, I had my 3 in 1 screening and I came back “high risk” apparently 1 in 140 for Downs. I’m now freaking out and they’ve offered me a NIPT blood test which hopefully I’ll have today. Any advice?

Deep breaths and stay busy.
It sounds a scary number but of 140 women in your position only 1 of the babies will have Downs syndrome, the other 139 won't do whilst it feels a scary risk there's a good chance that your baby won't.

I had a 1 in 137 result for Downs on the combined screening. As PP says your odds are still very good that baby is not affected - better than 99% chance. The wait for NIPT results is so stressful (I was completely unproductive at work all week) - in my case it took six days to come back - but try to hang onto those odds and stay positive! My NIPT came back fine and baby was born a month ago very healthy in every respect. It can be helpful to talk to the fetal medicine nurses about what it is that has given your higher risk result (in my case, my age - I'm 39) but in any case you're only just into the higher risk category so please don't panic. Sending you lots of luck and good wishes

I'm on the same boat. Literally received a phone call today saying my odd is 1:43 which is a lot higher comparing to you. I am trying to look at it as percentage rather than ratio because it does make a massive difference (only 2.23% chance for me). My combined screening result was fine (so I was told) but due to age (33yo) and another factors I am just in the high risk group. It is mind boggling and so worrisome but can only wait to find out and keep my fingers crossed. Im having a NIPT blood test tmr.
Try to keep yourself busy in the meantime. It will be ok. We will be ok 🤞🏽
