2mm, fetal pole but no heartbeat 6 weeks

I had an early scan due to a previous missed miscarriage and some abdominal pain but no bleeding. It was 2mm, with a fetal pole and yolk but no heartbeat. Should I be worried? I have to wait a week. Does anyone have a similar story? I only have larger breasts, no other symptoms. I know I have to just wait but would be helpful to know if anyone had a similar situation

are you definitely 6 weeks? You might have ovulated later. What did the sonographer/midwife say? A lot can change in a week, don’t lose hope.

I was dated almost 2 weeks later than I thought I was with this current pregnancy.

hope it all works out ❤️

Thanks, definitely 6 weeks, I’m sure when conception took place :(

@SophieRules even if you know when you had sex, you don’t know when you ovulated, sperm can live for 5 days so you may not be 6 weeks, just giving a bit of hope if I can ❤️ the midwife said to me that dates can change when they do a scan by up to 2 weeks. Sometimes embryos can catch up or you may just have just ovulated later so actual conception happened later than you think. I know it’s a very worrying time, I’ve been in that situation and one time it was bad news and one time it was good news, on both occasions I was bleeding.

something that might help either now or in the future is low dose aspirin, it’s been a game changer for me in my successful pregnancies. Good luck x

Thank you, I’ll try and be hopeful. Sorry to be clear I know when I ovulated too. I know this. Go either way, just hoping I’m not unlucky enough to have two miscarriages in a row.

It's normally between 6 and 7 weeks when you would expect to see an embryo and heartbeat so if you're exactly 6 weeks then that's normal and not something to worry about...... unless the sonographer said anything else that suggested they were concerned?
I know it's hard but there really isn't anything you can do now but wait the week and see if everything has grown and developed as expected.

As for symptoms, with my first I only had sore boobs until over 7 weeks, nothing else. She's now a healthy 4 year old.

Hi OP, when I was pregnant I had a scare at 6 weeks & 5 days I went for a scan and same could see the sack and fetal pole but no heartbeat. I went back 10 days later and babe was measuring bang on 8 weeks & 1 day with a heartbeat/ she's now a hormonal 11 year old xxxx

SophieRules · 05/11/2024 16:20

Do you remember if they were measuring small? Nice to hear a success story

Yes measuring small she put me back to 5 weeks 6 days or something and I knew she was wrong because I'd only had sex once in that time xxx

Also symptoms come and go, and vary from person to person, so please don’t worry about this x

Just to update I had another scan it has grown to 6mm with a heartbeat. Over the moon and scared to be excited at the same time after my last loss, praying that this my rainbow.

Sorry to open this up again but how are you doing OP? I've had the same today. 6 weeks 5 days, 2mm embryo, no heartbeat and have been told to wait until next Thursday for a re-scan. This thread has given me hope... keeping my fingers crossed for you.

SophieRules · 05/02/2025 21:17

Progressing well, wishing you the best of luck x
