@Firsttimetrier @CatCaretaker mine actually feels less active now. I still very much feel him but he used to kick around for ages especially of an evening, now it feels more like bigger movements occasionally. Sometimes my belly is lob sided too where he's clearly lying more to one side. I'm guessing he's running out of room in there now.

I also have found myself feeling oddly calm about the impending csection. Considering how anxious I've been throughout the pregnancy about it, and now it's 5 days away.. I feel strangely unbothered, which in turn is freaking me out. Is this my calm before my storm? Is it all going to come out x1000 on the day of. 😬

@CatCaretaker & @Firsttimetrier
I was just thinking how crazy baby had been and then read this!
Definitely much more active!
I've now got my section date but not had the official letter through yet but looks like I'll be having a Christmas Eve baby!!

Also has anyone who already has children had experience of how accurate growth scans are? baby was measuring 6lb 11oz on Monday at 35+6 and wondering how accurate this really is

CatCaretaker · 05/12/2024 23:07

@Lunamoon23 yes my belly gets lopsided topowhen she is obviously hanging out on one side or the other. It's so odd to me as a first timer.

@xx11x no-one has ever estimated baby's weight at any scan. They just say that she's on track, and that they're happy with her. Is that a UK thing, estimating weight? Anyone else in ROI, do they estimate weight here at all?

OP posts:
MaybeBaby2024 · 05/12/2024 23:10

@xx11x in my experience growth scan with DC1 wasn’t that accurate. I was expecting an almost 9 pound baby and he came out at 7lb.

The weight they tell you is really only a rough estimate.

xx11x · 05/12/2024 23:18

@MaybeBaby2024 thank you, that's reassuring to know, no one has been concerned with her size so far as it seems to be her legs that are pushing her weight up

@CatCaretaker I have been told at my growth scans the weight and percentile, on my last scan they told me a better breakdown of percentile, so average sized head, 90th percentile stomach and 98th percentile legs - this was from head, stomach and femur measurements
edit - I'm in Scotland so may be different elsewhere

Hiya
the growth scans for me both times have been wildly inaccurate!! And they stressed me out - so it’s not worth it 😅

Lunamoon23 · 06/12/2024 01:18

@CatCaretaker agreed, I also find it crazy to see and feel!

@xx11x I've only ever been told if asked. Think at my last scan baby was measuring 6lb 4oz or something but they were happy. Estimating him to be a 7lb something or close to 8lb at birth. I'm not fussed ether way as he's coming out the sunroof! Amazing you've had your date though! Makes it all so much more real doesn't it, mines next Wednesday!! X

LilyJessie · 06/12/2024 08:31

@HelterSkelter224

Just catching up.
You are absolutely not entitled nor are you unreasonable.
You sound like such a strong woman. Families are difficult.
Sounds like your the adult in your and your mums relationship.

Absolutely, whatever boundary in place that you and your baby need is not unreasonable.

Be gentle with yourself 💗 xx

With my first, he was 1lb under what they estimated, they predicted 8.5lbs and he was 7.3lbs!

Firsttimetrier · 06/12/2024 08:51

Managed to capture some of the movements on my phone last night and it’s genuinely like a scene from Alien 😂 feet/arms/legs sticking out of me, big shifts in where he’s laying etc.

Just done the nursery run this morning and can barely walk as it feels like he might actually fall out, so hoping whatever he was doing last night was to get more engaged 🤞🏽

My toddler also likes to keep me humble and told me I was walking like a penguin, so I think I’ve definitely got a pregnancy waddle going on 😂

LilyJessie · 06/12/2024 08:52

I was also thinking that I have never had my baby weight estimated but get that graph thing.
Are we able to look on there and it tell us and I'm being really dense 🤣

Yes, you can look on that graph. But it is an estimate. Xxx

Synergy94 · 06/12/2024 11:14

I’ve actually noticed baby’s movements less now I’m 37+5, before I’d get really sharp jabs all evening long but now it’s more slow rolls with the occasional limb sticking out. I also get a wonky belly depending on where baby is lying. Midwife wasn’t concerned in change of movements at all, it’s obviously getting quite snug in there!

I’ve officially started mat leave so it really is just a waiting game now! I’ve been rubbish at posting on here but check the thread daily, it’s been such a massive support to hear from others going through the exact same thing ❤️

RedRobyn2021 · 06/12/2024 12:18

@xx11x

I had a growth scan with my first at around 34 weeks and she was estimated 6lb4 when she was born almost 8 weeks later she was 8lb4

I'm not sure how accurate that was, but the lady that did the scan reminded me they aren't very accurate, they're just the most accurate way they possess to measure

Firsttimetrier · 06/12/2024 12:50

Movements are definitely more rolling and shifting around, with one side of my bump poking out, but last night was massively different. Like he was trying to get into a certain position and could see body parts poking out/lots of stretching which took my breath away.

Lunamoon23 · 06/12/2024 14:22

@Synergy94 that's exactly how I'd describe my movements too. I haven't been concerned as he is very obviously still moving, and I figured it must be because there's less space in there now to kick around like he could before 😂

Question for you ladies, when do you first bath baby after birth? It's one of the things my DH is really looking forward too. I've googled it and it's all quite conflicting information. Some say you shouldn't until a week post birth due to the cord. Others say it's fine after 24hours??

HelterSkelter224 · 06/12/2024 15:03

@Lunamoon23 we bathed our daughter for the first time at about 2 weeks! When her bellybutton fell off, I think that's the guidance but I could be wrong. We just wiped her down with water and cotton wool before then.

HelterSkelter224 · 06/12/2024 15:05

For those asking about weight, interestingly they told me the weight with my first pregnancy and haven't mentioned it with this one. It was wildly wrong last time, saying she was 9lb something at about 38w 😱, when she was born at almost 42w she was 7lb9

Lunamoon23 · 06/12/2024 16:04

@HelterSkelter224 ahh okay! Good to know thank you...

I'm feeling a little deflated this afternoon. I've had a call from the antenatal team to tell me they've had to postpone my ELCS date to the day after, so it's now next Thursday instead of Wednesday, no reason given.

I know it's only a day... but feels disappointing. Keep telling myself it's better I know now rather than on the day. Just makes me worry now it could happen again inbetween now and then..

HelterSkelter224 · 06/12/2024 16:56

Ohh no @Lunamoon23 that's crap. You've geared yourself up with this date in mind, and looked forward to meeting your baby, so it's understandable to be frustrated and upset that they've moved it 😔 hopefully that will be it 🤞

Firsttimetrier · 06/12/2024 17:00

@Lunamoon23 that’s so annoying! It happened to my friend, her ELCS was moved 3 times, all at short notice and she was so annoyed!

Lunamoon23 · 06/12/2024 17:44

@HelterSkelter224 it really is, every morning I've been waking up counting down another day. Me and DH were excited last night saying this time next week will (hopefully) be our first night home with our baby...

@Firsttimetrier ohh god. I'm really hoping that isn't the case with me. I'm really keen to not go into labour before the date ether, and I'll now be 39+4 on the new scheduled date. Just wanted it to be a nice planned day, which is the main reason I opted for a ELCS.

One blessing is at least I didn't go in on the day and sent home again, I'd find that really difficult especially with my anxiety. But just had to juggle a whole bunch of stuff around as had organised pet care and food shopping etc around the date.

LilyJessie · 07/12/2024 04:28

@Lunamoon23 ahhh I'm so sorry, I know how anxious you've been as well. But the second baby is in your arms, it'll all ai be worth it 💞
I'm sorry xxx

starryx · 07/12/2024 08:53

I'm officially 38 weeks today and it's my birthday too 😂 wonder if he'll try to make an early appearance x

LilyJessie · 07/12/2024 09:30

@starryx
Happy birthday! And fingers crossed! I am 38 weeks on Monday and am ever so hopeful mine will also make an appearance on your birthday as I'm so over this 🤣🤣🤣 xx
