This is mostly for a bit of fun, but I just wondered if anyone had a strong 'knowing' or 'feeling' of what they were having which was later confirmed they were right?

I am currently having a strong feeling it's a girl, which is surprising me as I was convinced for most of my life it would be a boy first. (Seems to be the trend in all my fam)

I knew DS1 was a boy from the beginning. Just knew it. I also had a dream before he was born where he was looking at me with a shock of black hair. When in labour the midwife checked me and said 'I feel alot of hair' and I said with complacency 'I know. he has alot of black hair' (for the record, DH is strawberry blonde and I am brunette. )

Yes both times and had names - luckily I was right

NormaNormalPants · 03/11/2024 19:19

I’ve “known” from fairly early on with both of mine, just an absolute unwavering sense, I’ve been right both times, but then there was always a 50/50 chance of that so it’s not something I put much stock in.

I knew ( and was right) first time
Then had an identical pregnancy so was convinced girl again ( correct) I was huge , loads of sickness, heartburn and just exhausted

Then had a totally different pregnancy ( yip guessed boy ) no sickness , no heartburn , minimal weight gain and would have worked longer if allowed to
4th and last was the same so guessed correctly boy again

I had my DC more than 30 years ago and my hospital had a policy of not disclosing the sex from scans or of providing scan photos, so the sex was unknown until the baby was born.

With my first DC I had no idea of the sex until she was born. I'd had no strong preference for a boy or girl beforehand but she turned out to be my absolute ideal child so when I was pregnant with my second child I thought I would like another one just the same and hoped very much I was having another girl.

However, at about 18 weeks I suddenly KNEW the baby was a boy. Whenever I spoke in my head to the growing baby inside me I knew he was a boy. I was so certain, I would have been absolutely gob smacked if he had been a girl.

He was indeed a boy and, of course, I fell in love with him. But I have always felt that the fact that I absolutely knew he was a boy from quite early on in the pregnancy was a good thing because I was able to get over my disappointment well before he was born.

It is difficult to convey how absolutely certain I was of his sex because I know how weird it sounds, but I never had any doubt at the time.

I swore it was a boy. My friend, my mom, my dad and my sister also thought it was a boy. My husband claims he honestly had no feeling.

The NIPT test showed it is a girl!

IMBCRound2 · 03/11/2024 21:19

Not me - but when I was pregnant with my first , I had some movers rounds delivering some furniture. One of the men looks at me goes ‘ my wife says I shouldn’t do this to women’ … and then while I pulled up the emergency dial on my phone, proceeded to tell me the sex, weight, and how close to my due date the baby would be . Right on every count.

merderforlife · 03/11/2024 22:05

I knew what both of mine were and was right both times. In fact with DC2 I think I'd have fainted in shock if it had been the opposite, I was so certain! didn't find out til birth either.

NastyBoomtown · 03/11/2024 22:08

Nope! Didn't know what I was having with mine - with dc1 I went back and forth thinking girl/boy/girl/boy. We had a girl

I was sure dc2 was going to be another girl and had a boy.

I'm clearly crap at guessing! I'm better at guessing other people's weirdly and have been right more often than not (I know it's just luck 50/50 etc)

I was that certain too. To the extent that a couple of times I was asked if we'd found out the sex and I actually forgot we hadn't and said it was a boy. Which he was. It's still just chance though. I didn't actually know. Just hormones being a bit silly.

Echobelly · 03/11/2024 22:10

I had no feeling at all first time around - DH was sure a girl, and he was right.

Second time I had a suspicion it might be a boy - my sister was just 9 weeks behind me with her pregnancy and felt sure we were both having boys, and she was right. I felt more sure when I had an awful rash on my torso during the last 6 weeks, as I read this was much more common with boys, something to do with a reaction to the hormones from a male child.

RuthW · 03/11/2024 22:11

Yes I just knew I was having a boy. This was back in the day when they wouldn't tell you.

I was 100% certain.......but she was a girl!

SaveMeFromMyBoobs · 03/11/2024 22:12

I mean it's 50/50 so I'd estimate a solid half who were 'certain' were probably correct 🤣

bakewellbride · 03/11/2024 22:21

I definitely knew ds was a boy from day 1.

With dd I wasn't sure at all and we didn't find out until she was born so it truly was a long wait!

Both ends of the spectrum!

Smittenkitchen · 03/11/2024 22:23

No idea but everyone thought we were having a boy and the doctor said something that made us think she'd seen DD was a boy (we wanted a surprise) so I was convinced she was going to be. Nope! I had no feeling of what she was myself though.

remaininghopeful23 · 05/11/2024 23:56

I said girl in early pregnancy because I was really sick until 17 weeks. First baby and didn't know any better so kind of following the old wives tales. But as pregnancy went on and I got to know my baby I just knew he was a boy. There was no doubt it my mind. I kept the clothes neutral but some definitely leaned more towards boy's clothes. Only had one boy name in comparison to a list of girls names. Guess I knew I wouldn't have to actually decide on the girl name hence the list. I find this topic fascinating!
