Due date 3rd November and don’t feel like baby coming anytime soon!

FTM and as above my due date is the 3rd November but don’t feel like baby is going to put in appearance any time soon. I don’t really know what to expect but can labour come on suddenly with no prior warning or do most people feel something change in the few days leading up to it?

I didn’t have any feelings prior to having mild contractions!
I woke up at 3am with period type cramps and then everything went from there. But in the days leading up to that I wouldn’t say I felt any different or like I knew it would happen soon.
I know some people feel different just before it starts, like their mood can shift a bit.
Tricky as everyone is so different!

Northernrun · 01/11/2024 14:36

Interesting, so it was quite sudden for you, though as you say different for everyone.
Today is my last day at work and hoping they arrive reasonably soon so as to maximise maternity leave with a baby!

I remember writing a long email to my best friend moaning about how I was going to be pregnant and uncomfortable forever as I felt exactly the same as I had for weeks and felt desperate at the thought of several more weeks of the same and then not two hours after I had pressed send my waters went, baby had arrived by the next morning! I had no inkling apart from perhaps being in a slightly more emotional mood (hence my melodramatic email around ‘I’m going to pregnant foreveeeeer) 😁

Northernrun · 01/11/2024 14:57

@Frivolitiesandfripperies great news😄this is exactly how I feel

I'm due on the 4th and feel exactly the same- think I'll still be going at 42 weeks!

Northernrun · 01/11/2024 15:03

@piechipsgravy I've convinced myself it's going to be a 42 weeker!

@Northernrun snap. I feel fine in myself still so can cope with a few more weeks but it's the mental strain of not knowing that will get to me!

Northernrun · 01/11/2024 16:30

@piechipsgravy Yes! Plus I feel like I’m waiting for something but have no idea what it is/will feel like. Now I’m about to go on maternity leave as well I have nothing to distract me either. Hope your baby comes along soon!

The afternoon before my due date with my first I was sobbing because "the baby's never going to come and I'll be pregnant for ever" after I'd been booked for an induction. Went into labour that evening and she arrived the next morning. You just never know!

GodspeedJune · 01/11/2024 16:53

My first sign was waking up with mild period pain, followed a few minutes later by my waters going with a ‘pop’. There’s hope it could happen soon even if you haven’t noticed anything yet!

LightSpeeds · 01/11/2024 17:01

With my first baby, my waters suddenly went, then the contractions started...

Superscientist · 01/11/2024 17:10

I was convinced my daughter would be late and she was 8 days early.
The afternoon before my waters broke my bump went spongy having been very taut and I had a brief sharp pain.
My waters broke at midnight and baby was born at lunch time. I had ctg monitoring around 2 am which showed I was having contractions but it was about 5 am that I could feel them. They were 3 in 10 minutes 60 seconds long around 7.30 am. I had an exam around 9 am and was 2 cm begged to go back at 11 am. I'm so glad they let me as I was fully dilated!

My mums labour with me was 20 minutes and I was born on the ward. She was in for monitoring and they didn't have time to get her to the labour ward! They weren't expecting her to go into labour. I was 2 weeks early

Some women have long latent labours but not everyone does.

readyforroundthree · 01/11/2024 17:32

I went 5 days over with my first and on the day labour started I remember having lunch at my grandparents and feeling absolutely normal. That evening I started to get mild back ache and it progressed from there but no bloody show, waters didn't break, they only started trickling out the following morning.

Northernrun · 01/11/2024 17:44

Thanks all for your replies and giving me hope!😁

All will be fine @Northernrun i would just assume you will go over. Just think in two weeks will definitely have your baby…any sooner is a bonus! Mine were 8 days and 11 days late. Best of luck

BobTheBobcatsBob · 01/11/2024 18:14

I felt like that with my ds. The day before my due date I spent ages moaning to my SIL that I had no signs of impending labour and that I was worried I'd go drastically over my due date. That evening whilst watching a film I felt a pop and my waters broke. I had my ds 4 hours later. No sign of impending labour doesn't mean it won't suddenly start! Good luck!

Northernrun · 01/11/2024 19:27

Thanks @Willsnbills and @BobTheBobcatsBob ☺️

I was wandering around in the morning saying that I had absolutely no signs of labour. DD was born that afternoon

piechipsgravy · 04/11/2024 13:36

How are you doing @Northernrun ? I'm definitely still not having any signs- had the MW this morning and baby is low in pelvis but not necessarily engaged. Still no bloody show or any contractions!

Northernrun · 04/11/2024 15:23

Hi @piechipsgravy Still no signs here either! My midwife has been telling me for the last month that the baby is fully engaged so not sure it makes much difference. Did she talk to you about next steps? My 12 week scan did move my due date forward 4 days from where I had estimated because I was testing for ovulation so maybe I’ll just go with that as a more accurate date to make me feel better!

OP posts:
piechipsgravy · 04/11/2024 15:34

@Northernrun no it wasn't discussed- I guess that'll come at my next appointment which is 41+2. I'm glad I don't have to make any decisions yet as I'm not sure if I want an induction! Strangely my DD also moved forward 4 days at my 12 week scan!

Northernrun · 05/11/2024 08:34

@piechipsgravy how strange, hopefully they will come by our alternative dates! Yes I really want to avoid an induction if I can also.
