Am 38 weeks and haven't used anything other than the occasional paracetamol the whole pregnancy. Surely those little things you shove up one nostril and inhale are ok aren't they? Can't stand another night of not being able to breathe properly

olbas do a nice one too.

During an appt for major sore throat etc etc and utterly blocked nose when about 35 wks, my GP delved into one of his bibles and emerged declaring that Otrivine was 'quite fine so decongest away'.
Pharmacists won't tell you that obviously, and feel free to double check with your own GP too, just relating my experience.
I used it only at night so that I could breathe (and DP could sleep without listening to snoring ) and made a big difference to the quality of my sleep!

Shoppingbags - if there is anything you're not sure about then I would phoen NHS Direct and speak to a Nurse, its quicker and easier than going to your GP and I have found them very useful in the past.

Good luck with your nose!

Have bought the Olbas one as it doesn't say anything about consulting doctor etc on the package and the ingredients are just herbs. Am sooooooooooo looking forward to clearing my nose, what a saddo

i did when i was pg with dd. i was DESPERATE. (actually i think i looked it up a lot on the internet and couldn't find any compelling reason not to).

deaconblue · 25/04/2008 20:52

I understand desperation. I wake myself up by making warthog noises.
Dh has long since decamped to spare room

They are fine to use in pg. But if you want to stick to the non-chemical route, a couple of drops of thyme essential oil in a steam bath works wonders.

AitchTwoCiao · 25/04/2008 20:56

SNORT THE CHEMS! [hardcore]

deaconblue · 26/04/2008 11:25

chemicals snorted and a better night's sleep had. Hurrah!

After three days of not being able to breath, I went to pharmacy this morning and pharmacist told me Olbas Oil was OK. The relief!

phoebebouffet · 27/04/2008 21:12

I hope so I was addicted to these when I was pregnant, and the vicks, vaporub as well, still love the smell of them now. My lo is fine x

hi, i got a prescription for something yesterday and found it better than olbas/vicks, can't remember the name of it but it is for hayfever anyway and you squirt it once in the morning and at night. Its fine to use during pregnancy too and it has worked a dream so far.
