How much weight did you gain?

I am 22 weeks and have put on a stone! My legs look chunky as hell. Given how much the baby weighs now which isn't anywhere near that I am panicking I am gaining too quickly.

Just under 2kg and I'm 37 weeks.

inneedofaglowup · 31/10/2024 08:53

10kg

DoctorAngelface · 31/10/2024 08:56

I put on two or three stone by the end of it.

I ended up underweight from breastfeeding afterwards so it was no bad thing to have gained weight.

Peonyyyy · 31/10/2024 09:18

I’m 31 weeks and gained two stone!

im trying to reign it in a bit now as I have been overeating. Ive found this pregnancy hard with sickness and complications as well as stressful bedtimes with a threenager 🫣

im just trying to be a bit more mindful about what I eat for these next few weeks as I don’t want to feel fat when the baby arrives (although I know that’s inevitable to an extent)

it’s mainly my legs and chin that are looking chunky… nice!

LoveSandbanks · 31/10/2024 09:29

I put on 2 stone in all, but most of it in the early stages. I gave birth to
a 10lb baby.

Superscientist · 31/10/2024 09:34

Just over a stone. It wasn't enough and I ended up very underweight by the time I stopped breastfeeding. I had sickness in the 1st and 3rd trimesters followed by severe pnd and breastfeeding a baby with allergies I had 18 months on a poor diet and my physical health suffered as a consequence

24CRZZNKKA · 31/10/2024 09:39

I put on around 2st last pregnancy, this time around my diet has been terrible as iv been feeling so unwell (I'm still in first trimester) hoping to reign it in when *if I start feeling better.

I'm jealous of all those saying they lost loads of weight bf, I exclusively fed my last DC for 14 months and didn't lose a great deal of weight 🙁

Raberta · 31/10/2024 09:45

I put on around 18-20lb in all mine, starting at a healthy weight. But the vast majority of it was in the first half of pregnancy, no idea why. But I just listened to my body, fed it on demand but never overfed it, and always chose food with as many nutrients as possible. So avocado, tomato and cheddar sandwich instead of plain cheap ham. Dark chocolate instead of Cadbury etc. Obviously my body knew exactly what it was doing because I was back at pre pregnancy weight by six weeks each time.

You don't say your starting BMI OP, but if you are healthy weight you can expect to gain more than someone who is overweight to start with.

Listen to your body and feed it when it's hungry, but choose the right foods and don't overeat. You'll be fine.

Weenurse · 31/10/2024 09:49

12 kgs and my obstetrician was very insistent on not gaining too much more as she said it was hard to lose ( and it was).
Apparently all you need is an extra glass of milk and slice of bread a day to provide the nutrients a baby needs, as long as you eat a well balanced diet.
Good luck with everything

SquashPenguin · 31/10/2024 09:51

I gained 4 stone. I was carrying so much fluid I could hardly walk. My ankles disappeared.

Superscientist · 31/10/2024 09:53

@24CRZZNKKA for me it wasn't the breastfeeding but more the situation. I only had 15 or do safe foods due to my daughters allergies and she screamed all day and couldn't be put down for more than a few seconds so even making a bowl of cereal was a challenge. I struggled to get out of bed because of my depression so I probably only had 1 meal a day plus a couple of snack. Being able to go back to a normal diet when I stopped breastfeeding and being able to have better treatment for my depression meant I put on a stone in about 6 weeks!

I was a normal range 24, would have like to have been lighter though.

29 week, 12kg so far. (Normal BMI)

Ha, my midwife didn't weigh me at my booking appointment either, she just asked me if I knew my weight and I gave an slightly optimistic answer especially given I'd just come back from an all inclusive 2 week holiday (where I made up for in food what I missed out on with alcohol!) so I dread to think how much weight it will look like I gained!!

BackSideMisty · 31/10/2024 11:25

DC1 - 4 stone. A lot of that piled on in the last trimester. I was skinny before I got pregnant, though.

DC2 - 2 stone. I had bad morning sickness and actually lost a stone in the first trimester!

wheresthebigcarrot · 31/10/2024 11:26

3.5 stone baby 1. Lost 1.5 stones baby 2! Crazy difference. They weighed exactly the same at birth Hmm

Caspianberg · 31/10/2024 11:27

20kg (3stone). I lost it all really quickly and by about 4 months after was underweight due to constant breasfeeding. Went from usual 50kg to 70kg, and then dropped down to about 46kg due to non sleeper baby who constantly ate

BatildaB · 31/10/2024 11:27

I’m 37 weeks and have gone from 70kg to 90kg (am quite tall so 70kg was just at top of healthy bmi for me). Have felt sick the whole time so eating what I can, which is mostly a lot of carbs and not much in the way of vegetables, and haven’t felt up to moving around much. The non-bump weight mostly seems to be in my legs, I’m not too worried, but I do plan on doing lots of walking once the baby is here.

CortieTat · 31/10/2024 11:41

5 kilos so far (20 weeks), started with lean BMI. I craved spicy and salty fast food in the first trimester (lived on thai food and korean noodles) but now the cravings are gone and I’m back to my normal diet which was healthy and balanced before pregnancy.

I lost weight 6 months before getting pregnant (10 kilos in total) so I have been tracking my calories when I got pregnant and I still do out of habit, of course with added room for pregnancy.

SErunner · 31/10/2024 11:45

1st pregnancy - 8kg, back in normal clothes within a week

2nd (current pregnancy) - 20 weeks and 5kg so far. It just seems to be going on much easier this time round! Hoping to keep it in check as it did feel good to be back to normal so quickly post birth last time.

You only need to gain 8-10kg I think, and personally I do think it's worth keeping an eye on it, although not obsessively. The more you gain the more you have to lose, and the idea that it just falls off is a bit of a myth I think.

Wigglywoowho · 31/10/2024 11:47

I lost 2 stone during pregnancy. I was on a very low carb diet due to gestational diabetes. I gain 4 in the year after having my daughter. One stone isn't bad it's probably mostly water and baby .

teatoast8 · 31/10/2024 11:52

I lost weight breastfeeding. Think I put on 2 stone

CortieTat · 31/10/2024 11:56

I also haven’t stopped exercising. Had to adapt a lot - I used to run twice or three times a week with one long 15k run on Sundays and now I don’t feel like running at all! But I still do weight training and surprisingly it helps a lot to keep SPD and pelvic floor under control.
