How much weight did you gain?

I am 22 weeks and have put on a stone! My legs look chunky as hell. Given how much the baby weighs now which isn't anywhere near that I am panicking I am gaining too quickly.

About 30lbs, I think.

Holiday24 · 31/10/2024 16:54

I put on 4 stone with my first! And lost it all easily breastfeeding. Only put on 2 stone with the second but finding I'm slower to lose it this time round.

I think it's best not to pay too much attention to the scales, as long as you're eating relatively healthily. You can worry about weight later if you need to, when you're no longer growing a child!

It doesn’t matter. Oh the instagram notion of “bouncing back” is all well and good (like being pregnant is somehow not you at your best…?!?) but in the trenches of a difficult pregnancy and a new baby it’s so far down your list of priorities. Just get through the first year or two of having a child and when you feel slightly more like a human being again (which can be at different times for different women) then that’s your time to worry about your weight again.

And for the record, my husband has put on a fair bit of weight since being down here in the trenches of parenting with me, and no one has asked him how much weight he’s gained. I don’t understand this idea that a dad bod is somehow something to be celebrated but a mum tum has to disappear in less time than it took to grow an actual human being.

4 stone, I lost it all in 10 weeks, I think it was a lot of fluid weight.

Agree and then all that bollocks about oh you just need to breast feed the weight will drop off. Mine didn’t it took hard graft!

I put on whatever the baby book told me, it broke it all down ie what was the baby what was your extra blood volume etc. I am a) a stickler for rules and b) a bit bonkers about my weight.

This was also my experience. I was ravenous when breastfeeding and actually put on weight after pregnancy.

3st. I went from 9st to 12st. Got straight back within weeks. I was 27, next one at 28 and same starting weight, gain and and loss. Back to 9st.

I'm now 53 and 16st 😡😡😆😂

mondaytosunday · 31/10/2024 17:23

About a stone, maybe stone and a half. Felt slightly nauseous all the time. Baby was over 10lbs! Gained more between pregnancies though 😬

Blingismything · 31/10/2024 17:23

21 pounds.

msmatcha · 31/10/2024 17:46

Around two stone, took about a year to naturally come off.

FrenchandSaunders · 31/10/2024 17:49

2.5 stone with twins who weighed nearly a stone together at birth. Massive bump but my arm and leg fat disappeared! Soon went back on after unfortunately.

Isn't a stone by 22 weeks fairly normal?

I was a healthy weight to start with and gained just under 2 stone in each pregnancy, which I think is average. I'm sure I gained about stone by 26 weeks and then just under another stone by full term.

I honestly done know. I just can't believe how flabby my legs have gone. Although I did used to do gym classes 4 times a week. I am still managing 5 miles of walks a day with dogs, but my legs have gone big.

5kg and lost it all in the first week. Gained probably twice as much since then with bad habits and constantly snacking during breastfeeding.

Lunamoon23 · 31/10/2024 20:22

33 weeks +4 currently. First pregnancy, healthy low end of normal bmi pre pregnancy, 5ft4. I've gone from 9stone (size 6-8) to 13 stone!! It's shocked me tbh as I'm very active. But my midwife doesn't seem concerned, so while it's depressing I'm not worried. Know I can get rid of it all the other side if I want too (which I will) x

torturedpoet13 · 31/10/2024 20:24

I'm 23 weeks and afraid to weigh myself!

Fisharenotfoods · 31/10/2024 20:26

-3kg at full term after I puked for the full 9 months. At one point it was -11kg so I gained a bit back towards the end 🤮😭

Ruthietuthie · 31/10/2024 20:31

I had terrible morning sickness through until about 17 weeks and lost nearly a stone. I then gained very little (five pounds or so, so still under my starting weight) until I suddenly swelled up like a ballon at 35 weeks - 30 lbs suddenly appeared in about two weeks. It was pre-eclampsia and I had an emergency delivery at just before 37 weeks.
Breast-feeding sucked the weight right off me, despite eating non-stop, so I was back to below my starting weight by 6 months. Unfortunately, my eating habits during Covid really chunked me back up!

mizu · 31/10/2024 20:37

3 stone with each!

I also haven’t stopped exercising. Had to adapt a lot - I used to run twice or three times a week with one long 15k run on Sundays and now I don’t feel like running at all! But I still do weight training and surprisingly it helps a lot to keep SPD and pelvic floor under control.

Your pelvic floor shouldn’t be an issue at 20 weeks even without any exercise!

It’s not so straightforward when you are 46, I’m afraid.

addictedtotheflats · 31/10/2024 20:46

3.5-4 stone each time, carried a LOT of fluid and was around 2 stone lighter within a week or two with both. Gradually lost most of it by 6 months
