Honestly I think it’s just a 50/50 guess from my experience, I paid 3 people online to look at my scan and one refunded as they said it was too early but the other two one said boy and one said girl 😅

having thought about it if there was enough evidence to back up the nub theory they would tell you the gender at the 12 week scan instead of at the 20 week scan (or 16weeks+ privately)

Just like any other theory, it's a bit of fun.
It might be right for you but take it as a fun guess and don't go rushing out buying everything for one sex or the other.
For me it was right in one pregnancy and wrong in the other 😅

Is a guessing game with 50% chance of right/wrong. Nothing else.
