Hello all

I’m age 40, just found out I’m pregnant and over the moon.

However, I haven’t taken any folic acid and I take 100mg sertraline. I will speak to my doctor about this but literally found out last night. Do you think I need to be concerned? Does anyone have any experience with this?

Thank you!

Honestly I wouldn’t worry too much initially. Just maybe chat to the doctor asap about the Sertraline. When I was pregnant they said it was safer to keep me on my SSRIs as my mood was so up and down. Congratulations ☺️❤️🎉

The general consensus is that it’s safer to be emotionally stable and well, than to stop taking SSRIs during pregnancy. If you have felt well for a long time, you might be able to consider tapering down, but it’s worth seeing how pregnancy hormones affect you first. GPs who suggest otherwise are behind current medical evidence.

WRT folic acid, just start taking it now.

Congratulations. Folic acid isn’t really relevant loads of babies aren’t planned so it’s not taken. I’m on citalopram and am continuing throughout pregnancy which midwife and dr both happy with
