Irregular empty gestational sac at 5/6 weeks

This is my second pregnancy. My first was a successful fairly straightforward and he has turned 1 this month. I should be 6 weeks 3 days according to LMP.
I had a private scan last week which showed an empty sac and corpus luteum on my right ovary. No masses or free fluid. I was referred to EPAU where they confirmed no yolk sac or embryo. The sonographer mentioned the sac shape looks irregular in shape the diameter is 10.3mm. The measurements put me at 5 weeks 5 days.
The conclusion is pregnancy is uncertain viability and I'm booked for a rescan in 10 days.
My pregnancy symptoms don't feel that intense so I am mentally prepared for the worst but looking for whether anyone has had a similiar experience.
No bleeding at all since LMP.
I really appreciate anyone who takes the time to share their story or any insight. I don't have anyone to share with except my husband and would rather not tell family and friends.

I don't have a positive insight to share unfortunately just wanted to offer support as someone else waiting on a follow up scan to check for growth. It's absolutely rubbish and please try to keep yourself as busy as possible. At 5+5 it's really normal not to see an embryo I believe. 🤞

Thank you this really helped. I've read countless forums albeit dates years ago it helps to know there's always a chance it would work out. Hope you are coping OK. Totally agree the waiting is hard. Thanks for your message <3

Hi OP, not sure what the irregular shaped gestational sac could mean but not seeing anything else at 5+5 is very normal.
You would always be invited back a10-14 days later for a rescan.

Symptoms as well mean nothing and have no bearing on the viability of a pregnancy. For many women, they don't kick in for another week or 2. Some women have severe symptoms then have a scan and find they've had a totally unexpected MMC, others have next to no symptoms at all and go on to have a healthy baby.

Good luck

Thank you for this, they didn't expand much and my notes just say irregular shape. The next 10 days hopefully will pass 🙏🏼 thank you again

Just an update - the scan took place 12 days later where the sac had grown but was still empty. The measurements were predicting 6 weeks 3 days from 5 weeks and 4 days.
I am waiting to discuss with the nurse where to go from here.

The sonographer has said she would class it as no baby given I should be atleast 7 to 8 weeks.

My heart feels heavy after spending the last 2 weeks searching for stories both good and bad I thought there will be some hope but also aware this was a possibility all along. Has anyone got any opinions on best process I.e. natural, surgical DC or medicated?

Thank you
