Getting your hair done whilst pregnant

I seen that you should avoid getting your hair coloured until after the first trimester. I’m currently six weeks pregnant and have an hair appointment booked for the end of next month. Is this just a precaution or would you suggest avoiding/speaking to my hairdresser?

I had my hair done during the first trimester, I asked my midwife and she said these days it's very safe, back along it may not have been so much so due to different chemicals used etc (think that was more boxed dye though). So I went along and had it done. I did inform my hairdresser which she thanked me for, as apparently your hormones can sometimes interact differently with the colour (takes longer or less time). But all was fine! Of course if your too early along and don't want to speak to your hairdresser about it, just ask your midwife xxx

It’s fine.

It's fine, enjoy!

Nhs says you may choose to wait until after the 1st trimester; it doesn't say there's actually a risk. Your hair can be more unpredictable though and your scalp can be more sensitive.

It's not harmful to baby, it's just that some women get more sensitive to different products so might find their scalp reacts or the hair colour goes on different than it normally would - it's recommended to have a patch test even if you've used the same product for years.
