Does increased nausea indicate a girl?

I am currently pregnant with my first baby (I am only 11 weeks so don’t know the sex yet). My hairdresser asked how I’d been feeling so I said that I’ve been ok, just very tired and hungry, but I’ve not been feeling particularly sick. My hairdresser said that she thinks I’ll be having a boy, because most people who don’t feel too sick tend to have boys.
I did some googling on this just due to being bored and it seems there is some truth in this, though obviously it can’t be relied on! There was a study done in America in 2020 of over 3000 participants and it concluded that there does seem to be a higher incidence of nausea and sickness for those that give birth to girls.
I’m just wondering what you all think about this, have you noticed anything similar yourselves or amongst your friends?

I threw up and retched so much I gave myself whiplash and I had a boy. Its just your bodies response to the rapidly increasing hormone levels. Some bodies just handle it better than others

I am enjoying all your replies, thank you! It is interesting as several large scale studies have been done globally and it seems there is a link, mostly with severe morning sickness though. But again it can no way be replied on to predict! I like the hair/bald theory as well 😆

I had scarcely any nausea with my son, but felt really, really sick with my daughter.

HappyGoLucky31 · 28/10/2024 19:40

I have a DS and am now pregnant with a girl - and my pregnancies have been so similar. So much so I was convinced it was another boy.

Zero nausea or sickness the first time, and I was the tiniest bit sick around 5 weeks and since then nothing.

Yes but statistics and individual causation are very different. People don't understand statistics! Especially when you've only had one pregnancy.

Interlaken · 28/10/2024 19:43

Yes you are more likely to have a girl.
But not massively, if I remember correctly it’s 55/45 girls/boys.

BookishType · 28/10/2024 19:45

A silly old wives’ tale. Next she’ll be saying the way you carry it indicates the sex, or it’ll have thick hair because you have heartburn. All daft.

CriticalOverthinking · 28/10/2024 19:48

Horrendous sickness and heartburn with both. One boy and one girl, both bald.

Can't say I know anyone who has had the old wives tales accurately predict anything.

Overthebow · 28/10/2024 19:49

I don’t know if it’s true or not, but if it were an indication it’d be relative to your own level of sickness. So for your first baby there’s no way of knowing as you haven’t been pregnant with both sex’s.

NormaNormalPants · 28/10/2024 20:05

No sickness in either pregnancy, first was my DD and I’m now pregnant with a boy so there’s no truth in it for me either

WhiteHorse92 · 28/10/2024 20:05

It did actually ring true for me but I know people who have had no sickness with girls and sickness with boys. Felt fabulous whole way through my first pregnancy with my son, in my second pregnancy with my daughter I had horrible nausea every day from 4pm til bedtime for the whole first trimester and third trimester I was exhausted and felt miserable. My mum was the same, fine with my brother but sickness with me.

Dobbycraft · 28/10/2024 20:06

I've been pregnant with both and felt more sick with the boy

Beansandneedles · 28/10/2024 20:10

Very mild MS with first pregnancy, over in the first trimester. Awful throughout the second pregnancy. Bleugh. First was a boy, second a girl. So I guess we fit the stereotype, but imo it's more likely to be the subsequent pregnancy thing rather than a boy/girl thing.

Snorlaxo · 28/10/2024 20:11

I have both sexes and was super sick every time.

Emiliana52 · 28/10/2024 20:11

So sick with three boys and my last pregnancy was a girl and just the easiest! Funny really!

annlee3817 · 28/10/2024 20:16

No sickness at all with first and she was a girl, horrendous nausea with my second and she was also a girl

Iamthemoom · 28/10/2024 20:20

Bad nausea and heartburn and I had a girl with a full head of thick black hair.

Sister had no sickness or heartburn with any pregnancies and had three bald boys!

2 of my younger family members currently pregnant, both had HG badly, according to scans they're both expecting girls.

So in our family the old wives tales seem to be alive and well!

mrsed1987 · 28/10/2024 20:25

I was fine with my first (boy). I had nausea until 14 weeks with my second - also a boy.

BuenosAiresTango · 28/10/2024 20:26

Had no nausea with my daughter and tonnes with my son, so not true for me!

bakewellbride · 28/10/2024 20:27

I know someone who was horrendously sick from the day of the positive test right up until she gave birth and she had a boy.

The sick means girl thing sounds like nothing more than an old wives tale.

MirandaWest · 28/10/2024 20:28

I was horribly sick for about 2 months with both pregnancies. One boy and one girl 😊

bakewellbride · 28/10/2024 20:28

Also to add I had zero sickness with each of my 2 pregnancies and I've got a boy and a girl.

Cotswoldmama · 28/10/2024 20:35

No first son I felt really sick, loads of food aversions and vomited a few times. Second son no symptoms at all. My friend has 2 girls she had no sickness at all. Each pregnancy is different.

HH96 · 28/10/2024 20:36

I was more sick with my son but had hypermesis gravidarum with both anyway

curlycurlymoo · 28/10/2024 20:49

No mine was worse with a boy.
