Anyone on Cyclogest

Hi everyone, I am new to this site but I have had two misaccriages in the last 12 months and naturally terrified because we are expecting again - according to my dates I am 6 weeks but I started spotting so went to the EPAU and they could see the sac but no baby. My Progesterone levels were low so they put me on Cyclogest twice a day. Not to sound too gross but i've had a horrible brown discharge since taking them....I have read other threads about this and it seems discharge is quite normal but should it be brown in colour?

I was on progesterone from 6 weeks but admittedly didn't have any discharge like you describe but I know some people do did continued spotting maybe try switching where you insert?

MrsWUFCwifey · 26/10/2024 12:55

thanks...i have seen a few others saying inserting the 'other' way....just hate not knowing whats going on with my own body and if baby is ok?

I had some irritation from progesterone pesseries too. Which caused some brown .. sludge?
Hope all goes well!

Sludge is a very good way to describe it....just spoken to my EPAU and they advised its quite normal....so just have to wait for the scan in 9 days time to see if baby is growing etc....

Glad they've been able to advise. It's so so difficult, my first trimester was filled with bleeding, pain and the worst anxiety!
I hope your scan goes well. The two week wait is nothing on this!
I'm hoping to have another round of IVF next cycle to try for a sibling for my daughter and I'm worried even thinking about it!!!

I really hope it works out for you FlakyAquaQuoter xx we are super lucky to have one baby but the journey to have another is never easy x

Thank you, you too. It really is a ridiculously tough journey sometimes!

Hi there,

I'm on cyclogest (IVF pregnancy). I was told to either take it vaginally or rectally and I've always taken it rectally without issue. Maybe worth trying that way to see if it resolves the issue x

Supperlite · 27/10/2024 15:30

Yep it can cause brown spotting because it irritates the lining of the vagina. I’ve had it for two pregnancies. It’s not the most fun! I use it rectally until it irritates that too much then switch back to vaginal, and go back and forth. All the best for your pregnancy!

JC03745 · 27/10/2024 15:38

Sorry for your losses OP Flowers

I've lost 3 and used cyclogest several times. I did try them vaginally, but found a white, paste would soon come out when it melted. Never brown in colour though but it was awfully messy!
I then switched using them rectally. I'd put a speck of lube on the end before insertion. Not the most pleasant for a few seconds, but no sludgy mess! Best of luck x

Yeah I was prescribed cyclogest and it was recommended rectally, absolutely no issues at all with this and v little mess. I have friends who had to take it vaginally and said the same, they had discharge etc.

MrsWUFCwifey · 28/10/2024 10:48

hi all - it's seemed to have calmed down a bit now but still having to wear a liner just during the day. I find at night because I'm lying down it's all fine.
I just hope all this saves the pregnancy - 7 more days till the scan.
