Hello! Just after some advice or reassurance from anyone who might have experienced similar.
I am 29 and we had our first IVF cycle earlier this year. I overstimulated at egg collection and felt awful which meant we had to wait a couple of months before doing a frozen medicated transfer in April. The transfer worked and we got pregnant, however at 5.5 weeks I started with spotting and then severe sickness which resulted in me collapsing and being taken to hospital via ambulance. I was still on a high dose of progesterone (pessaries initially then injections) to support the pregnancy. I was in and out of hospital with the sickness (which they diagnosed as hyperemesis however at times I wondered if it was all the meds, albeit the sickness was very severe) and at times severe bleeding (which they said was a subchronic hematoma). Then at about 9 weeks while in hospital, we had a scan and were told the baby’s heart had stopped. The sickness was debilitating and continued until I returned to hospital to have an assisted termination given the baby’s heart had stopped.
It’s now been a few months and my cycles have been normal for the first time in my life so before we have another transfer we are considering trying naturally. I am however terrified of the sickness again and of course a further miscarriage.
My questions were more to see if anyone has had similar situation and feels their sickness may have been down to the strong IVF meds as opposed to hyperemesis.
If we are lucky enough to conceive naturally I am just praying the sickness isn’t the same this time or we may try an unmedicated transfer.
I guess I’m just hoping there might be someone out there who experienced sickness from an IVF pregnancy but then didn’t get it again when they tried again?
