Has anyone had a happy ending after cramps?

I know only time will tell, but I’m feeling very low. Finally got a positive test last Wednesday at 11 DPO after nearly a year of trying. We got our hopes up, had started making tentative plans and were just so excited.

Yesterday, 5 weeks exactly, I started getting intense period like cramps. Exactly like I’d get in the run up to my period but more painful. I’ve had no spotting or bleeding. They’ve been constant for 24 hours now, they don’t come and go. I don’t feel like they’re severe enough to call my GP though.

I have been taking tests every other morning to see progress, but this mornings test was basically the same as 2 days ago when I know it’s supposed to double…

I’m feeling like this only really goes one way from here. Have you ever had anything similar & it all been okay?

Period cramps are normal as the womb is stretching, I had them a lot in first trimester. Still getting it now in third trimester now and again. I don’t think it means a bad outcome. There is a limit to how dark those test gets and it’s not there to tell you how pregnant you are just that you are pregnant.

If it continues you could talk to EPU post 6 weeks I think but no blood I doubt they would see you

I had really bad cramping around 5 weeks but it's completely normal (as long as no bleeding). I'm now 20 weeks 🥰

Er, yes, loads and loads of people...? Most people having a successful pregnancy have some cramping. It's not any kind of concern at all if it's not accompanied by bleeding.

SquashPenguin · 24/10/2024 18:25

Yes, along with three weeks consistent bleeding. She's 5 months old now!

Yes I did, cramps are quite normal especially with a first pregnancy.
Bleeding and severe pain (like worse than regular period pain) would need checking out.

Thank you so much everyone - I’ve been floating between ‘it’s fine’ and ‘it’s the end of the world’ all day and I really appreciate your sense checks! I’ll hope it settles down soon and keep all my fingers crossed.

In my first (viable) pregnancy I had loads of cramps almost daily. I would always be cuddled up with a hot water bottle at night! Probably worse than period cramps. Everything was absolutely fine! When they were there, I worried. When they stopped, I worried 😂

I had excruciating cramps in the first 6 or 7 weeks... Apparently it can be linked to the embryo implanting in the womb. 20 weeks now and all is well so far!

I had cramping in early pregnancy that felt very much like my period was coming. Because of this I was convinced that I wasn’t pregnant and was very surprised when the test was positive. The rest of the pregnancy was fine and my son is 16 months old now. If you haven’t had any bleeding I wouldn’t worry.

FlakyAquaQuoter · 24/10/2024 20:13

I had awful cramping, and the typical "dragging" feeling you can get when you're due on. Then a whooooole lot of bleeding. My now three year old was happy as a clam in there with no concerns!

Also, gently (because I know it's really hard) step away from the tests. You won't see much more progression now and they're not effective for tracking anything at all.

My sadly non-viable pregnancy gave me the best dye stealers and progression. My lovely little girl stopped at about the point your tests are at and never got any stronger!

All the best, I know how tough it is!

I got SO much cramping in my first trimester, was one of my biggest symptoms. My 4 year old is currently snoring away next to me Smile

Sagittarius25 · 25/10/2024 14:12

The day I got my first faint positive (and for two days afterward) I had bad cramps and bright red bleeding. My baby turns 1 next week.

It's a really horrible game of having to wait and see I'm afraid.

Sagittarius25 · 25/10/2024 14:13

I also had red bleeding on two other occasions, and lots of brown spotting, which all stopped at 10 weeks and never came back. It's really not talked about enough how you can have bleeding in spotting in pregnancy and it doesn't always mean miscarriage.

Flopsy145 · 25/10/2024 14:58

Was very crampy from about 2 days before my period was due to about 8 weeks pregnant, currently sat feeding said baby 💙
