I'd say go for it now - ovulation will be very soon. Once your mucus changes again to thick white (and it will be an abrupt change) you have ovulated and the you have missed the chance that month (once you see the white mucus, only sperm that are already past the cervix can make their way to the egg.
Another clue is to reach into your vagina with 2 fingers. Your cervix should be very high up and open a bit. After ovulation it lowers and is much easier to reach. It also closes so you will feel a little 'bump' of the closed cervix, rather than open.
What happens with cm is that early in the cycle, it will be scanty and white. That is infertile mucus.
As ovulation approaches, it clears and starts to stretch between the fingers. Clear and stretchy is very fertile.
Then, it abruptly changes again to non stretchy white.
If you see inconsistant changes - white one day, clearing, white, clearing, that is an infertile pattern where ovulation is not triggering.
You will know you ovulated if you get the abrupt change to thick white.
