Hello,

Having experienced a traumatic loss two years ago I am feeling nervous and worried.
I went for a scan today and at 5w+6 days they could see the gestational sac but no embryo.
I have to go back in two weeks which seems like a long wait…
Has anyone else been in the same situation?

Exact same situation. Scanned today at 6 weeks with the same result. They told me not to worry as it's uncommon to see anything before 6 weeks (I ovulate late which puts me back at 5 weeks something). Also going back in 2 weeks 🤞

If you can afford it maybe go for a private scan in a week if 2 weeks is too long ? I recently had a pregnancy of unknown location and they scanned me every 48 hours saying they see changes every 48 hrs so 2 weeks might just be an nhs standard thing but actually you could get an answer sooner than that. Good luck Flowers

This is normal before 6 weeks and no indication on whether this will be a viable pregnancy or not. I honestly don't even know why they do scans at such an early stage unless there is a genuine concern it could be ectopic.

I know it's hard to wait 2 weeks but a scan at 8 weeks will hopefully show so much more.
Plus if a healthy embryo and heartbeat is seen at 8 weeks plus, the odds of miscarriage drop considerably!
