Early pregnancy sickness

I am between 5 and 7 weeks pregnant. I feel soooo sick and dizzy from the second i wake up to the second i fall asleep. Interesting i am only actually sick once or twice a day, but the nausea is absolutely relentless. This is my 3rd pregnancy, and i remember how horrid the first trimester can be. However, with both of my previous pregnancies, my sickness didn’t start until about 7 weeks. This time it has started at 4/5 weeks which seems super early. I have heard it peaks at around 9 weeks (which i seem to remember from before). I am absolutely terrified that this is only the tip of the iceberg and it’s going to get even worse. Has anyone else has sickness this early?

Yep. I rang the doctors straight away as I knew it was my hyperemesis back again and got some medication. It's truly awful. I was sick with mine but it was the nausea that was the worst. Hope it goes soon

Hi OP. Yes I had sickness from very early in this pregnancy compared to my first where it didn't kick in till 7+ weeks.
It's been a lot worse this time and, yes, it peaked around 9/10 weeks.
I'm 17+3 now and it's a lot better. Still have occasional sickness and nausea but it's a couple of times a week rather than the several times a day I was experiencing before

I have my first midwife appointment today so I’ll mention it. I’ll book a doctors appointment too. This is defo different from the other two times as i was still able to work, distract myself from the nausea. This is on another level. @curlycurlymoo which medication did you have? I’ve heard they prescribe one beginning with ‘c’ to begin with, but a lot of people seem to say it doesn’t work

With my first my sickness started from 7 weeks and ended at 14 weeks. Oddly enough this time it started earlier (sick twice a week from 4 weeks) the all day nausea started at 5/6 weeks which was new I never had nausea last time only sickness. Then my sickness peaked at 8.5 weeks. I had one day where I was sick 6-8 times and just spent the day between the bed and bathroom. I wondered how I would keep going but the next day it was gone. Maybe the smallest amount of nausea remained but I don’t remember it.

I would say that from 9.5-11.5weeks I had a horrendous cold that turned into a chest infection. I was bed bound and on antibiotics. I was being sick daily (10.5-11.5weeks) due to the coughing/phlegm. I don’t think that was pregnancy related but to be honest I was that ill I couldn’t tell.

Im now 14 weeks and I haven’t been sick since 8.5 from pregnancy (or 11.5 from the illness). So in my case it started earlier but disappeared earlier.

Yep with my first pregnancy it started 5 days after my positive test.
I was on cyclizine which allowed me to function. I took it in a second pregnancy but it wasn't as effective so I had prochlorpreazine prescribed instead

Mamasuzette · 22/10/2024 19:17

Thanks for sharing your experiences. It’s reassuring to know that just because it started earlier it doesn’t necessarily mean it will last longer. I have been prescribed cyclizine and have taken two tablets today. I still feel pretty awful, but i don’t know whether i would have felt even worse without them. Does anyone have an experience of how long they take to kick in? It says one hour on the bottle, but others have said they work better with a constant flow of it in your system (topped up every 8 hours). Thanks xx

I think I started with cyclizine with both. Made me very sleepy. Hope you're feeling better soon.

Mamasuzette · 24/10/2024 18:24

The Cyclizine has helped in ways, but i think it could be making the dizziness worse. I have been given Stemetil to try to see if that suits me any better. I feel worse every day. I have had an early scan to check for twins, but it’s defo only one baby. I am 7 weeks exactly. To think that this isn’t even the peak of the sickness is really scaring me. I can’t believe how hard it’s been mentally. And how much I miss being being with my older children x

@Mamasuzette hyperemesis is bloody awful. I still get people say oh it's just a bit of sickness but it's so much more. I was pretty much bed bound for 9 months. Hardly saw anyone and I think I ended up quite depressed. Was so happy once baby was here because I knew I'd be back to normal and never have to be pregnant again! Keep going back to doctor if you're still not great. There's other medication to try.

I’m so sorry for everyone who has been through this. It is absolutely horrendous. I really appreciate all of your advice. Sharing your stories has made me feel less alone ❤️

Take care with the dizziness. I ended up falling in the night and all my weight landed on one ankle and I could barely walk for a week. I went to a and E and they were fairly confident it was soft tissue and didn't need an x-ray

It came after a good day for nausea but a bad day for sickness so I felt more able to function but barely kept anything down.
I was on cyclizine at the time and they switched it to prochlorpreazine afterwards. I think it was the lack of food rather than the meds though. Lesson learnt about not overdoing things when the nausea was less!
