I’m 39 weeks and have gained around 24lbs this pregnancy, so well within recommended gain. My nausea has never truly gone so my appetite hasn’t been great this pregnancy.

Over the last week I have suddenly developed the most insane sweet tooth. I’m not generally a sweet person, but when I crave sweet things a handful of sweet popcorn usually satisfies it. Not this time. I am devouring packets of chocolate buttons. I made the most chocolatey brownies and ate them over the course of two days. I literally have to fight with myself not to buy donuts.

No signs of gestational diabetes and no concern from midwife, but wtf is this?? Has anyone experienced random sugar cravings at the end of pregnancy? Worried I’m about to pack on an extra stone!

Could it be related to the way a baby gains fat in the last weeks of gestation?

I don’t have a sweet tooth but was like this for money of my pregnancy.

Immediately went away when baby born.

Very strange.

My appetite was up and down through my pregnancy but from about 37ish weeks I had so many days like this! I remember one morning at about 38 weeks pregnant I was in the shop and really fancied some birthday cake with thick icing sugar so I bought one thinking I’ll have a slice after breakfast- I infact ate the entire cake for my breakfast😂

We used to buy those tubs of chocolate covered crispy bites from M&S, had to stop buying them because I was just eating the whole tub in one go. Sharing packs of sweets and crisps were no longer “sharing” (unless you count sharing as me and my huge pregnant tummy)🤣

Ah I’m so glad it’s not just me!! I didn’t have this with my first - my appetite was better overall as sickness was gone by 16 weeks so it was more considered. I was extra hungry in the last weeks but was able to control the types of food. But this time I need sugar 😅

@EducatingArti i suppose it could be! I just don’t know why it’s specifically chocolate etc. With my first I wanted more carbs probably in the last few weeks, but nothing as intense as this!

@MidnightPatrol I hope mine goes when baby is born! It’s the most insane, insatiable need for chocolate buttons 😂

@Mrsttcno1 Oooooooh birthday cake with thick icing sounds amazing. Suddenly I want a Costco cake 😂😭

I am 38 weeks and want to eat all the time! I had a BMI of 34 before pregnancy so was pleased I only gained 12lb the whole pregnancy until week 34. Two weeks later I'd gained 7lb! Got on the scales this morning and I'm now up to almost 2st in total! I've not got GD, just know I've been eating more as I am hungryyyyyyyy!
