Hi,

I use mumsnet often as it really helps me find some perspective. I have bad health anxiety in pregnancy (I have a lot in way of support for this)

Today's current fear is that I went pumpkin picking with my husband and daughter. I didn't touch anything but my daughter touch soil ect. Afterwards, before we could wash my daughters hands, she accidentally out two of her fingers in my mouth. There was no visible soil on her hands but she had touched soil about 15 minutes before.

I am scared I could have caught toxomoplasmis.

Please can someone with a logical brain help reassure me as I have been anxious all day.

Many thanks!

Health anxiety is awful. I suffer from it myself and can completely relate to your post. It's just typical isn't it that your daughter got her fingers in your mouth, it's like why me !! But as soon as I read it I remember reading that the parasite is from infected cats poo. I had a quick Google for you and NHS website says,
Toxoplasmosis is a common infection that you can catch from the poo of infected cats, or infected meat. It's usually harmless but can cause serious problems in some people
So firstly there'd of had to be cat poo in the area and secondly the cat needs to have been infected. I also think you would've noticed any poo around the pumpkins as you are probably quite hyper vigilant due to the anxiety.

I'm sure you had a wonderful day and made lovely memories with your daughter, next time there'll be another little one to enjoy the day ! (And stick their fingers in your mouth 😂) I'm sure all will be well x

This is such a lovely reply. OP you’ll be fine. If it makes you feel any better I ate something (can’t even remember what now maybe smoked salmon) when I was pregnant and convinced I had it. The consultant (who I was seeing for non related issue) said in his over 20 years in the NHS he’s only ever seen 1 woman with it x

No problem at all ❤️ Enjoy your pregnancy. My health anxiety has prevented me having another child which is currently really upsetting me as I am 43 now and unlikely to ever face my fears so I really do understand how you feel x
