Is it bad form to text close friends about my pregnancy?

I am 11 weeks pregnant and starting to think about sharing the news with two friends I'm really close with. Neither of them have children and when we've talked about it in the past I get the sense that one of them (more than the other) wishes she'd had children but she's been single for sometime. I'm not sure how they'll react to the news as our friendship has centred around going out for dinners, day trips and the occasional holiday. We're due to meet up soon for their belated birthday celebrations but definitely don't think this would be an appropriate time to tell them (although it might become pretty obvious as we're going for steak and cocktails). Would it be bad form to text them the news beforehand?

I had some difficulties and found that when sharing pregnancy news with friends who were still having difficulties or needed a bit of sensetivity then a text was appreciated most by them. They said it gave them time to digest the news without being put in the spot and expected to act all happy in the moment when emotions are mixed. I think a text is a good idea, and sent at a thoughtful time too, eg not in the middle of a busy working day, if you know what their schedule is like!

Text. Although (speaking from experience) please don't dump the scan in the group chat without any thought. I'm sure you won't, you're asking about sensitivity!
