How do they check if you are leaking amniotic fluid?

Hi girls, a question for those who are in the UK. How do they check for a possible amniotic liquid leak in the UK? I had a scan 2 days ago and the doctor said my fluid level was good and cervix closed but I'm a bit worried about watery discharge as I'm not even 20wk yet. I read some use a pad, some use a vaginal swab and some examine you with a speculum. I just want to prepare myself as I suffer from anxiety. Thank you x

Bit of everything depending on the circumstances.

They'll do an examination of the cervix via speculum and potentially a swab which indicates the presence of amniotic fluid.

Using a pad tends to be at a later stage when the leaking is heavier.

They have a swab that changes colour if it is amniotic fluid. Not invasive

Hiya, I went in about 27 weeks second pregnancy worried about this. They did do a speculum and also a swab which determined it wasn't my amniotic fluid, but actually thrush related. It sounds like you don't need to worry but do check with your midwife.

My waters broke in my first pregnancy and I was left like that for two days, and my god it was just so damp all the time. If that helps!

Hospitals use two types of tools, one is fFe (fetal fibronectin) or Actim Partus.
