Hi everyone, I just need some help as I’m a bit confused. I went for an early scan this morning for reassurance but they said they could see -
1 gestation sac measuring 7.4mm containing:
1 yolk sac seen. No embryo seen.
i’m a bit worried that they couldn’t see an embryo they also said I’m 5w2d instead of 6w1d like I thought I was.

is this normal ?? Am I just too early for anything to be visible at this stage. Any help please
thank you

You're still early. X

It could go either way unfortunately. Plenty of women get their dates wrong and/or measure earlier than expected but then everything is fine at a follow up scan.
For others, like myself, I went for a scan when I should have been 6w4. Was measuring 5w3 but with flicker of heartbeat. Had rescan 2 weeks later. No heartbeat and no growth so was a missed miscarriage.
I think the positive stories normally outweigh the negative in these very early situations though.

These reassurance scans are anything but.

It's just a waste of time and money. The NHS will scan you at 12 weeks.

Scanning at 5 or 6 weeks usually ends with the mother panicking.

And OP you haven't got your dates wrong. The margin for error at this stage is well known.

You're just as likely to be dated from your LMP at your next scan.
