Thanks for the welcome ladies, it is much appreciated!
I didn't get my first scan until I was 10 wks & 4 days, thought they might have booked me in earlier because of previous m/c's and my age! still the wait was worth it, I just burst into tears when I saw the baby's heart beat, it was such a relief. Yes and like you Heron I went through countless hpt's, kept thinking that because I didn't have any symptoms at the start I was going to m/c again, it cost me a fortune, DH would have went mad if he had known how much I spent! You seem to get through one part of your pregnancy and then you start to worry about something else!
mrsboogie
I was treated very badly by a M/W when I had my 2nd DS, she insisted that I had not started labour and that I had come into the hospital to early, I felt like a naughty school girl being told off, she had egg on her face when the baby was hanging out of me, literally seconds after her condescending speech, she then managed to scratch the baby's face in the panic to get the membranes off his face! The next day, I told her exactly how upset I was with the way she treated me, it took a few days before she rang me to appologise, she said that she had had time to think about the way in which she spoke to me, I think she had started to panic incase I made an official complaint about her. At least my baby was ok in that instance, but if I had left the hospital it could have been a very different story!

mrsboogie · 29/05/2008 14:01

eeeek !! and homebirth starts to sound like a good option....

unfortunaltely its true about getting safely past one stage only to have to start fretting over some new issue. Before I had even stopped the knicker checking and the buttock clenched weeing (not easy) I had started worrying about how much movement I was feeling. My LO has active days and lazy days and the latter causes me to fret no end. I suppose once the regular movement has been established it will be time to worry about my bp and blood sugar and gawd knows what!!

The difference now to when I was pg at the age of 18 is incredible. I got pg at school and ended up being banished by my ehmm shall we call them "conservative" parents to London to live in a homeless hostel. I didn't have much in the way of money, decent food or ante natal care and I ended up getting a bad water infection (didn't know what it was so didn't seek treatment for ages). Half the time I didn't have the money to eat. Despite all this I never worried that anything would go wrong, never had any ante natal checks and the baby was a big healthy perfect 9lbs.

pwcbird · 29/05/2008 14:47

It's amazing isn't it how we fret. I was so anxious to get to my 12 week scan and thankfully it was all great. I had about 2 days of feeling elated and now I worry about the 20 week scan which isn't until the end of July, so another 2 months of worry! I was like it with DS though, I can remember just aching to get past each phase and for it all to be ok. I can remember getting to about 27/28 weeks and thinking 'well if the baby came now with medical advances it could well be ok' and every week that past I felt more hopeful. I didn't stop worrying though until the baby was out and I don't think I will this time

Thanks msdynamo I am off at the very crack tomorrow morning - flight at 6.30 (eek!) so will have to wake DS at 3.30am which I'm not really looking forward to

No news from jeanjeannie - we're thinking of you and I'm sending you big hugs and will try and check in from Spain to hear the news (though will only be internet cafe as not taking a laptop).

mrsboogie · 29/05/2008 14:58

I'm exactly the same - 24 weeks (today!!) was the biggie for me.

Kaz1967 · 29/05/2008 17:18

mrsboogie don't get too excited I am 33 weeks tomorrow an this little one still has one active day followed by one quiet day when I get very little movement I ended up in about 3 weeks ago I was in getting a heart beet check because I had gone over 18 hours without feeling the little horror. Of course as soon as we got the monitor things on the monster started kicking

I have nothing but praise for the Delivery suite staff having been in twice the same cannot be said for the staff on the ward where I ended up the first time I would love a home delivery but really don't think it is an option

Heron23 · 29/05/2008 17:29

hi mrsboogie, that is my concern that at just over 6 weeks, they might not quite see the heartbeat... they will be using the transvaginal scan, so i think it will be ok (hope!).

you are all right about all these worries! CVS, 20week scan, 30 week scan! and after the baby is out, there is even more to worry about ! this is my 2nd child and i aim to worry less and enjoy being pregnant more !

whatever will happen, will happen. in the meantime, i am loving being pregnant. prob because i have not started morning sickness yet

jeanjeannie · 29/05/2008 19:27

Hello All....just checking in to say....bags are all packed, been in hospital this morning to go over all the procedures and am soon to get DP to 'do my girlie bits',........eeek!!! Now, allowing DP to go there with a razor....THAT'S scary

After having skim-read today's posts I'm hoping that my after-care will be better this time round. I have kicked up a HUGE stink and seen the head of midwifery about the cock-ups last time.....so hopefully they know I'm a trouble-maker But I'm sure I'll come across the most miserable midwife in the world at some point during my stay!!!

pwcbird Have a lovely holiday....missing you already

And to all you other lovely ladies...keep calm - don't let the stresses and strains get to you ...and, as soon as I can get to a cyber space connection I'll let you know how it all went...and what flavour baby it is...and if we've even given it a name Fingers crossed and I should be home Monday.

Must go - DD has discovered a HUGE cardboard box...that she's now decided she wants to live in...and is scooting around the floor inside it.....best go and get her to bed!

Take care all...Byeeee x

Heron23 · 29/05/2008 19:43

rosebury · 30/05/2008 12:59

mrsboogie · 30/05/2008 13:10

welcome rosebury - its a lovely thread. I've not been here long but am on here every day.

I am v shocked about jw - i am due three days after she was and haven't even got a proper bump yet. I can't get my head round the thought of giving birth at this stage. She must be in total shock.

babycakes26 · 30/05/2008 17:33

Hey girls
Sorry to pop back in but I couldn't resist to see if there was any news about JeanJeanie. And oh my word Johnworf I was shocked but ecstatic to hear your news and that you and baby Katherine are ok so sorry couldn't resist posting a short note of congratulations - wow Big hugs to you both.

We are doing fine thanks for all your lovely messages - just so sorry to put a downer on the thread. Please don't be sad for us anymore - we have found real peace in recent days and the smiles are coming back everytime we think of our short time with Zac.

All take care and JeanJeanie thinking of you honey - go girl! Have a lovely relaxing weekend all xx We are heading off to the coast with our pooch for some fresh sea air and food indulgence!

johnworf congratulations on the birth of baby Katherine! hope all is well and that you baby steadily gains the weight she needs to survive on her own.

jeanjeanie really hope everything is ok with you and your new baby!

rosebury welcome to this thread! I only joined here on Thursday, so we are both newbies. I am also on the due in October thread, but don't post there that often.

Hope every one else has a lovely weekend, and that there aren't too many unexpected events on the horizon!

johnworf · 31/05/2008 10:50

Hi ladies,

Thank you all for your congratulations. Katherine is stable and doing well. My milk is here today and boobs are HUGE! I'm expressing for her so hopefully we'll see her gain the weight she needs very soon.

She's settled into the neonatal unit in Manchester and doctors are pleased so far - but we have a long way to go.

Midwife came today and is happy with my progress so hopefully we'll keep on going at this rate.

babycakes so sorry darling to hear of your sad news and my thoughts are with you.

I'll keep popping back as and when I can between hospital visits to make sure you're all behaving yourselves!!!!

JW xxxx

rosebury · 31/05/2008 11:49

hello ladies thankyou for the welcome hello emmsy1 i have just left a message for you on the oct thread I do not know how I will keep up with both threads I know I will forget who I am talking to.

Johnworf glad to hear that Katherine is holding her own and stable, do you have far to travel to the hospital? thinking og you take care xx

msdynamo · 31/05/2008 12:21

Hello babycakes glad you are doing OK. Also, pleased to hear from johnworf that the LO is progressing well.

I have sad news from me. The dreaded silent MC struck yesterday. After finding very faint pink spotting, a scan revealed that my baby had died a month ago at 7 weeks.

I am so very disappointed after what seemed like a miracle conception. I take strength from the rest of you who have managed to succeed, and hope that I will be able to one day conceive again in the time I have left.

I may well continue to visit you.

Good luck to everyone with their pregnancies. I have treasured your company along this journey.

Love msdynamo xxx

winegumss · 31/05/2008 15:35
