hedgepig · 22/05/2008 13:37

hey MrsJ I'm with JW what on earth are you doing with that guinea pig
JJ just remembered that the 30th is my brother birthday, it is his 40th I must get him a pressie, I wonder if he would like something of JWs list??

msdynamo · 22/05/2008 15:19

Excellent shopping list johnworf, what I love about this thread is that all of us are encouraged to spend, spend, spend!!! I am going shopping this afternoon. To homebase! My nesting instincts are kicking in. I was in Oxford Street yesterday, trying to buy loose fitting clothing. It was hot, crowded and noisy. I longed to lie by a pool with a virgin Mojito in my hand

I too am intrigued by the guinea pig story. I've heard that a goldfish can play football so we shouldn't underestimate a guinea pig's intelligence.

pcwbird I dislike football. I don't want to hear about it, I don't see why it should feature on the news. My BF, supposed to come round for dinner, of course went off to watch it with his mates. He said 'You're not mad are you?', 'No' I said in a voice resembling a simmering tornado. But it was very disappointing, I do think of men as lower life forms at times. So nincompoops is the perfect word. Maybe we should adopt that as a permanent abreviation, instead of DH, or DP or BF, just NP, or NCP

FloriaTosca · 22/05/2008 15:50

Hello!
Just spotted this thread..why didnt I think of it when I needed it last year?!

My ds was born Sept '07 when I was 43...I soooooo wish I had met my Dh sooner so we could try for #2 but it took 3 yrs and a lot of heartache to get our little wonderboy and I'm not going to blight his first years by inflicting that sort of emotional turmoil on on him so sadly I wont be joining your ranks but I just had to drop by and say congratulations to you all and good luck, it is great to see the statisticians proved wrong . Wishing you all smooth and uneventful pregnacies, easy deliveries and every joy.

pwcbird · 22/05/2008 15:56

mysynamo I love your idea of the permanent abbreviation. Excellent idea.

johnworf wow - what a fantastic shopping list. You surely are a woman after my own heart indeed.

I am traumatised anew. DS has just had a little friend over to play. Not only have I had to listen to her count to 10 and say her colours, whilst DS looks on mute (typical boy - no interest in talking unless necessary which is never unless to shout to get something) but there is now utter mayhem through the house and garden and worse still, a crayon on the loose that I can not find and so am terrifed of future consequenses (ie DS will find it and draw on walls when I am not looking). I am normally a Nazi stickler when it comes to the crayons being put back in the tin.
I suppose I must allow him to have friends over??

Heron23 · 22/05/2008 16:14

hi all, just got my BFP today - AF was due today

can i join you all please?

i am 42 yrs old, have a 4 yr old DS. this is my 3rd cycle ttc.

i know it is really early days...i am just chilling and enjoying it!

i will have a 6-7 week dating scan just to make sure all is in place

pwcbird · 22/05/2008 16:59

Congratulations Heron23 and welcome. Exciting news - your heart goes into your mouth when you do those tests, no? Happy news

msdynamo · 22/05/2008 17:44

Welcome heron23 and congratulations. Thanks to you I'm no longer the newbie at 9 weeks!

LouiseAnn · 22/05/2008 18:01

Evening all,

jeanjeannie - I am fine, thank you for asking. Been really tired today, but I did see the consultant at the hospital. She was very relaxed and positive about my pregnancy. She said I "labour well", looking at my notes from the previous 2 pregnancies!! She doesn't think I will get pre-eclampsia. She did also mention that I shouldn't go over 40 weeks as I am 40yo. She said the placenta may not cope after 40w. I know we have talked about that on here before.

hedgepig - thank you for finding the list. It is very helpful.

pwcbird - congrats on your scan. It is a big occasion, seeing the baby and knowing you are at the end of the first trimester.

heron23 - you are most welcome here. The ladies are very friendly.

johnworf · 22/05/2008 18:17

pwcbird re the rogue crayon. You might care to look in his pants/nappy; down the back of any of the chairs, in the bin, in the dog/cat bowl or he's eaten it You'll soon know tomorrow if his poo is rainbow coloured. On the friends front, yes you must have them over. Most probably feed them too. And when the LO grows up a bit you'll have all of their friends over as well

Well done heron23 on your BFP We've all been there of course. Oh you're on that rollercoaster of emotions/hormones now and you just can't get off Enjoy the ride. That's what we're all doing!

FloriaTosca I'm sure your experiences of being an 'older' (ahem) mum will prove invaluable to some of us on here. Hope you'll stay around and enjoy the banter.

Now, I return to that shopping list I drew up earlier. Naturally that's the abridged version and I've got lots of other goodies I need before I have this baby. Hints dropped from the top of a tall building with anvil weights are lost on DH - or NCP as he shall be known henceforth - so I'll just have to use his credit card Oh, what a cunning plan.

I must have been a personal shopper in a previous life.

msdynamo · 22/05/2008 19:12

Tonight was a classic. My NCP just called to say he'd just won a major deal at work (I immediately thought 'we're talking Quinny buggies in every available colour here and Stork changing bags!' so I was really happy). But he sounded so miserable. When I asked why he said he'd happily trade it all for a Chelsea win last night. With a baby on the way talk about priorities eh? NCP!

jeanjeannie · 22/05/2008 19:57

Wooo HOooo johnworf I LOVE the shopping list. You must have been a personal shopper. And I was looking at the Boden summer catalogue today - mulling over what shape/size I'd be in a couple of months

JW We MUST know about this guinea pig....you can't leave us hanging. Do I get DD one...and then train it up to be the talk of the South Bucks Area?

heron23 WELCOME and well done you. Do come and play...we're all terribly friendly...nice to have you on board.

msdynamo I've been dreaming of a Moscow Mule today. Although I DO have a cream doughnut (with jam) which I'm going to scoff RIGHT NOW! DP has just gone to get it for me...after having explained the finer points of some interesting door hinges he has acquired for our new kitchen ...awww bless

Oooo and House is on later....Hugh Laurie....I SOOOO would

Minniethemoocher · 22/05/2008 22:08

Heron23 - congratulations on your pregnancy and welcome to the fabulous 40's!!

Sorry I have been AWOL, had the most awful morning sickness followed by vomiting bug, weigh the same now at 16 weeks as before I was pregnant

pwcbird - great news on the scan, can't wait for my 20 week one, ages away, well a month, they won't tell you the sex around here but I will be having a damn good look at the screen!

johnworf - great shopping list! I think that I may manage to persuade DH to buy me the Molton Brown goodies, or Jo Malone would be divine, having a C-section so will need nice smellies to cheer me up! Dead scared TBH...

Will try to keep in touch more...

msdynamo · 22/05/2008 22:47

Hi minniethemoocher good to hear from you again. Sorry you've been unwell.

Feeling somewhat guilty now as NCP has been super nice and understanding tonight and promised me everything I want under the sun. So I handed him *johnworf's shopping list. Not really. Would have been good to do so tho'

Note for any male visitors- How to Treat Pregnant Women- just agree with everything we want! We'll forget most of it later thanks to our baby brains. Apart from any material goods. Those remain permanently etched on our virtual shopping lists.

jeanjeannie so little time to go, and you're already planning your post baby wardrobe! Lucky you! I hope you'll keep us entertained on here throughout your c section and during those first vital days.

I used to have a boyfriend who was a cabinet maker, so I know all about hinges and dovetail joints

pwcbird · 23/05/2008 06:10

I have been awake forever so I've got up. Bluuurrgghhh.

Don't know why - still hating DH (NCP) and as you rightly said johnworf came home last night as if nothing had happened and plonked himself on the sofa saying how tired he was etc etc. Anyway - no matter - it's married/together life eh ladies? Can't be fluffy hearts and sweet nothings all the time (more like sweet f.a.).

Think will go shopping to buy giant knickers today. Not that I really need them just yet but my trouser thongs seem to be riding up, so to speak, and I have to keep yanking them down/out. Err... TMI??..

And on that note Good Morning

johnworf · 23/05/2008 08:10

Hey pwcbird. I'm a regular, up with the birds at 5.30am these days so I know how you feel. And I mean I'm wide awake so I usually get up and potter for a bit. The baby gets up with me and gives my internal organs a good beating whilst I'm eating breakfast

jeanjeannie the clock is indeed ticking dear girl. Not long now! I honestly wish it was me that was so close to delivering. I've so much stuff in the spare room nursery that all I need is to add is a baby

pwcbird have you forgiven him or just given up hope and surrendered to 'this is the way life shall be'? I have done the latter as it's no use fighting it.

OOOOH and BIG knickers are a favourite of mine. I could stick a pole in mine and camp with friends if I so desired. Noted on hanging DD's smalls on the line, I wouldn't even get one leg in the whole of them. They're tiny, spun from candyfloss and can hide under a stamp.

minniethemoocher sorry to hear you've not been so good of late. How long now to DD Day (delivery date)?

pwcbird · 23/05/2008 08:39

Have decided johnworf that it is just an exercise in pointless frustration to try and talk to him, so yes, I have surrendered.

When do you go on holiday - is it today or the weekend?

minniethemoocher hope you start to feel better now and can begin to enjoy your pregnancy.

mrsjupiter - the guinea pig! We must know. I was lying in bed thinking about it. It it for a guinea pig circus or just to be good housepets?

FloriaTosca · 23/05/2008 09:15

G'd Mornin'
Thanks for the invitation to hang around with you all...I'd love to. Though I must admit reading about your pregnancies is making me nostalgic and broody and Ds is not even 8 months old yet!!!
I loved being pg, I miss that wonderful feeling as they move about (he was very good and never jabbed a foot in my ribs, though some of the downward sensations were a bit eye widening) and I was lucky in that I got scanned every fortnight up until 20 weeks and every 4 weeks after that so I got to watch him growing as well..I even got my own doppler so I could listen to his heart beat every night(never ceased to put a smile on my face)....My only regret is that no one could tell me for certain that everything was going to be alright so I couldn't truly relax and enjoy it fully...I'd just love to do it all again if only someone could predict as perfect an outcome as ds...

LOL at the big knickers...mine could have hosted a party too....not that the ones I'm wearing now are that much smaller( just more sort of tea party rather than rave)...I have lost Dss baby weight, I've just got to tackle the 3 yrs of comfort eating I piled on before him , the other mums on the Due Oct 07 thread are all back to being sylph like now, it's just me that still looks pg, and I can't blame my age really...just being a greedy pig person who wants to sit around gazing at her son all day rather than getting up and burning it off and blaming bf on my inability to diet...still he'll be toddling in no time and will doubtless run the fat off me!

He's stirring (mid morning nap...yes at 9.15am!..he's been up since 6!) I'd love to stop by again if you don't mind...
I really should bring biscuits next time...

johnworf · 23/05/2008 09:24

pwcbird we're off on jollydays (very early to beat the traffic) on Monday. So you're stuck with me over the weekend

In the end we splashed out and bought DSS the portable DVD player for the long journey. I've had a go on it and I want it for myself....although that wouldn't be fair on DSS nor us grown ups in the front of car who will have to endure 'can I have a go now please'? from the back seat.

I'm so glad that I'm not alone in my dawn wanderings. Seems there's a fair few ladies just on this thread that are up with birds like myself. I'm in training for when this little one shows her face I think.

FloriaTosca I shall not be allowed to feel broody after this baby as my DH is considering a vasectomy. Although, I think delivering this one at 42 is pushing having another baby, even for me! Not to mention the 22 year age gap between this one and my oldest!

Officially, I should be sitting back and waiting for my grandchildren, booking Saga holidays and pulling a tartan shopping trolley around. Always one to buck the trend

jeanjeannie · 23/05/2008 09:27

morning all. Awful night - dd was very shouty and I was wide awake but shattered - all before the birds started singing...Gggrrrrrr.

Minnethemoocher good to hear from you - ugh, vomiting bug - sounds awful. Yes, when are you due...I looked back at the list and couldn't see your date.

johnworf if only we had a nursery...we have a spare junk room that is choc-a-block full of our own stuff. Years of invoices, VAT stuff, books....it's the pit of despair. We've got some serious thinking to do about where it's all going to go. DP is already talking about an extension...and i could tell he had his serious head on!

Big knickers are on today's list. Maternity pads are like wearing airbeds in your gusset...so for a c-sec you need big AND large. I'm thinking flesh coloured...make sure DP won't want to 'bother' me after the event

In a desperate bid to get something off the johnworf shopping list - we're off to John Lewis to complain about our freezer (that doesn't freeze) but we have to pass the full Molton Brown range.......not sure wether to simper and get DP to buy it....or just fork out for it myself

jeanjeannie · 23/05/2008 09:34

Johnworf I am SO getting a tartan shopping trolley. Been a dream of mine for many a year to become a cantakerous old bat...dragging one of those around....with a very sharpened spike on the front (think mad crone in Bond movie with one in her shoe).

And I'll have another one...covered in bonkers fur fabric.....for my softer moments...when i'm out with my small yappy dogs [grin}

Intersting that your DH is considering 'the snip'...my DP was...but has gone very quiet on the idea of late... Even mention having more dc the other day .......*runs away

johnworf · 23/05/2008 09:45

jeanjeannie is your DH having a mid-life crisis?????? Another baby and this one hasn't arrived yet?

On the shopping trolley front (or 'sholley' as they are officially known) I think you should opt for a Cath Kidson one.

And yes, do your best Oscar winning speech for Molton Brown stuff...I did last time we were in John Lewis. Worked like a dream

Worryingly, everytime I say 'would you like....?' to my DH he finishes it with 'a blow job? yes please'. I think he's counting the days off on the calendar for sex.

Embarrassing when visitors are here or in the queue at the supermarket

mrsjupiter · 23/05/2008 10:42

jeanjeannie I pulled a muscle in my arm tidying the study yesterday so I hope you appreciate the effort I'm making to unhang you. Especially since I've been chuckling a lot at the posts. I end your suffering at the expense of my enjoyment - I thought I'd be able to wait for motherhood to engage in that kind of win-lose deal but obviously not.

Well, all I can say is that I don't know if I'm crazy or if all of you are. I'm so brain dead I can't work out if you guys are serious or not.

Do you or do you not believe this to be a guinea pig of the small and furry variety? Finding it particularly funny since I thought I'd previously mentioned I was doing an executive coaching course, and have visions of discussing work/life balance with a guinea pig. "How long do you think you should be spending on that wheel? So you say you're looking to leave the rat race?" For total clarity - my guinea pigs are human beings on whom I practice coaching for no recompense. Feeling slightly guilty as I imagine your disappointment.

Hi there Heron and congratulations. Hope guinea pig stories have not put you off.

mrsboogie · 23/05/2008 12:53

hello all

I thought I had introduced myself on this thread ages ago but I am halfway through reading it and still can't find me - it must have been the due in September one...

Anyway it seems like a fab thread so I am dying to join.

I am 40 and a half (nearly) and 23 weeks - due on 18 September. Have neen with my OH who is 27 (yes, eeek!)for over 5 years and I have a 21 yr old son from a previous relationship (well, you probably guessed its not from this one)

We started trying last year - I got pg on the first attempt (finally, after 20 yrs being very fertile becomes a good thing) but unfortulately that ended in miscarriage. Tried again once around my 40th birthday and fell pg immediately again.

It has been relatively trouble free (except I had three very anxious epsiodes of bleeding) no morning sickness or nausea and not even tiredness. He's a boy - doesn't move around much which worries me but all scans and tests have been ok so far.

I haven't got much of a bump |(I think its hidden under flab - my BMI is high)and its been so easy so far I could forget sometimes that I am preggers. Despite (or maybe because of )this I am still constantly worried that something will go wrong - I got sucked into a toxoplasmosis thread yesterday and became convinced I have it because we have two cats.

I am trying to be more positive though and get into the exciting side of it like the chat about Yummy Mummy, Stork Sac, Oioi and Skip Hop (whatever the hell they are!!)I haven't bought a single thing yet and don't intend to right until the end.

xx

johnworf · 23/05/2008 12:56

mrsjupiter I was hoping that you were in fact coaching your guinnea pig for the 1,000 metres relay in the 2012 Olympics. Yes, I am disappointed !

And the moral of the story of the pulled muscle...here's a clue; put down the duster and step away from the hoover.....
