I'm still wondering if there's a connection between a CS and eyebrows. I didn't see one on Discovery Health channel but if there is, please let me know. Mine need a good plucking

pwcbird · 15/05/2008 17:04

I've just had to put the central heating on. Is it just me??...

As for facial hair - let's not even go there. I don't know what this pregnancy has done to me but I seem to be plucking hairs out of my entire face! And the hair on my head has gone mad and is growing like one of those dolls from years ago where you could pull the hair out of the top of the head (we're all of an age here so must remember??). My hair is so BIG that with a can or two of hairspray and some lipgloss I could be an American Tv presenter (err.... if they liked chubby ones that is with facial hair!!).

msdynamo · 15/05/2008 17:29

jeanjeannie I like the sound of your hunky carpenter, is he like the sexy plumber on Desperate Housewives? The father of my child works in IT- boring, likes yoga,(gay), and doesn't know one end of a drill from the other. I'm the DIY expert around the house, always have been due to a dearth of practical men. He's a metrosexual who doesn't do housework, damn it!

On a positive note he's good looking, very kind, does bring home the bacon and his obsession with health and diet (gay again) means his bits were all working when it came to producing a bean.

So can't complain too much. I'll just have to privately fantasize about all your sexy macho hunks.

I did once meet a very sexy SAS guy on the internet. Luckily my brain overtook my lower parts and I realised a trained assassin with post traumatic tress disorder probably wouldn't be ideal father material Good to know I've finally grown up, ahem.

msdynamo · 15/05/2008 17:34

johnworf thanks for the offer of your shed. Just realised that as I'm due in December it will be too cold. So I'm going to opt for a bench on the tube instead. Will be nice and snug with all the sweat from those commuters. Heck, maybe one of them will help me with my C section.

On the subject of increased facial hair, please, lets not go there. Is pregnancy good for anything in the looks department? Or do we all become fat, bosomy werewolves?

johnworf · 15/05/2008 17:57

Hands up for hairs...especially on my chin and neck (like a goat?). Legs like a gorilla and pits to match. I won't go into details of my foofoo but I will say there have been Japanese snipers hiding down there.

My DH works in the same office as me - at home. We ignore each other all day apart from work talk and hiding each other's stapler. When we finish for the day the talk turns to that of a domestic nature i.e. what's for tea, your tits look really big today, or today's classic was 'you've got a big spot on your eye'.

With lines like this we can safely say that romance isn't dead.

I've been out with an assortment of men mostly seen on Crimewatch foto fits. At least my DH is very good looking I'm his bit of scrag and proud to be so

johnworf · 15/05/2008 18:00

msdynamo glad to see you have arrangements in place for giving birth - on the underground. The offer of the shed still stands and we could make it more cosier and in keeping with the festive season by placing a candle in there and some tinsel.

I draw the line at a manger though.....

pwcbird · 15/05/2008 18:38

mysdynamo mine's a computer programmer too - though works in computer games. This just means he never wants to grow up, never shaves, wears scraggy t-shirts to work and only really started to wash himself, his clothes and his bedding once we'd met. Though underneath it all, when scrubbed up is really quite good looking and when I've met some of his co-workers I realised in computer gaming terms I've got a pretty normal one.
Maybe I'll join you on the tube. I'm December also

pwcbird · 15/05/2008 18:40

Oh yes and did I mention that if I had to make him choose between his Xbox, his PSP and me... I think he'd actually have to think about it!

johnworf · 15/05/2008 19:23

OOh so you have a geek too? Mine used to be a web designer...now he only does web sites as one offs.

He's not really into games but shove the laptop and Pokerstars website under his nose and I won't see him for 2 days.

jeanjeannie · 15/05/2008 20:50

I'm back....lost interest in dying eyebrows...plucked them - and chin(now a hair mountain in bin) and fell asleep.

msdynamo am howling laughing at thought of DP being in Desperate Housewives. Apprently in between ex-wife and me, he went to an arranged dinner party - and when he got there it was all women - who scared the living daylights out of him. Said he felt like he was the dessert! And he seems to have a lot of lady clients who are 'very fond' of him

NO - I can't find one thing that pregnacy has enhanced!

Blimey johnworf you & DH must be loaded - you've got a stapler EACH...

It's not just IT guys who are geeks I can assure you. DP will spend literally hours flicking through tool catalogues...he can get quite excited. He'll tell me about tools....as though I understand...or care! And a nice bit of wood....well, that can really set him off

pwcbird · 15/05/2008 21:09

Not only games but when it comes to the internet it's aliens and conspiracy theories. Oh and tanks. WW2 tanks. There was once a programme on TV about the top 10 tanks and I think it was his favourite programme he ever watched! We can watch a war film and he can name the tank at 100 paces. You think you've got geeks! And we can't buy ANYTHING without researching it for weeks on the internet. He will procrastinate forever online.
But the thing is... his heart is warm and his arms are soft and sometimes, just sometimes, he can be so lovely it brings a tear to my eye.
And on that lovely note I must go and ebay or I'll never get these things up to sell. I am so not wanting to do it! x

johnworf · 16/05/2008 06:48

Just laughing at you ladies and your personal geeks. Mine isn't into DIY nor wood or tools very much (although he loves his Black & Decker workmate) but I have been woken at 2.30am with him telling me his winning/losing poker hand with an air of triumph/desperation. Just what you want when it's taken you an hour to settle

He's obsessed with making money as well! We've got 4 businesses between us. He'll happily stay up to the wee small hours looking at products or updating one of the websites THEN, telling me in minute detail of what he's done at the most inappropriate of time - like when I'm having my weekly poo (cheek to the door, talking through the wood). Still, he's not a bad sort on the whole and lets me spend freely on what I want - more piles of baby girls clothes arrived y'day from Ebay

I'm thinking about your hair pile jeanjeannie and pleased that you too have a beardette like me. I think I can't wax it anymore either cos of the diabetes so I furiously pluck like it's a dead chicken. Not sure why, they're back 2 days later bigger and thicker than before making me look like Salvador Dali or some other bloke with a stupendous handlebar 'tache !!

On the subject of hair I read the other day that baby should also be put skin to skin with the father. My DH is so hairy she'll think she's landed on a rug or a bear. In fact his nickname with his bridge playing buddies is 'grizzly' (as in Adams). Poor baby indeed

mrsjupiter · 16/05/2008 11:17

pwcbird the doll's name was Tressy. I wanted one so badly but my parents drew the line after Teeny Tiny Tears, Sweet April and Sindy. I really can't believe that I didn't grow up grilie.

For those of you thinking cleaners/housekeepers end all domestic arguments, think again. It reduces them considerably but unless you literally have them following your man around 24/7, you'll find they don't totally mitigate the male presence. You don't however, have to wait four weeks for a meal for which I'm very grateful.

I have to say that I'm pretty fond of my husband's highly developed inner nerd, especially since it doesn't involve computer games which would be my nightmare. He's really into nature and wildlife and related - trips in the UK always involve OS Maps and binoculars. My friends only stopped laughing when they found out he was also really good at sport. I was a total city girl so have to say the nerd opened a whole new world to me.

johnworf · 16/05/2008 11:50

mrsjupiter I had a Tressy doll. It had a long piece of hair that came out of the top of it's head and a key in the back, I think, to wind the hair in.

My brothers chopped all my dolls hair off so it turned into chemotherapy tressy

Oh god this is turning into confession time but I do have a large collection of OS maps - old and new. I've not used a lot of them they're just a habit of mine.

Ok, that's enough from this geek

babycakes26 · 16/05/2008 12:07

howday all - sorry been awol for a few days - broke my laptop so been out of action whilst it took a visit to the techy doc. Just been catching up with all the hilarious posts - glad to know those lovely pregnancy homones are keeping us all sane lol

As for hair - oh yes what the devil is all this hair I seem to have grown in all the wrong places!!! I so need a wax but keep making do with sneaking DH's razor into the shower for a quick fix being too lazy to get myself booked in - at least I can still see the relevant areas at the mo over my growing bump!! Has anyone else grown hair in the dare I say it bum area or am I just a freak????? lol never had this before but it just feels hairier down there - I keep bending over and asking DH to check it out much to his amusement - think I am becoming obsessed - gave my MW a giggle anyway in between blood pressure checks sorry if TMI.

I'm still on the old bedrest with the blood pressure and bad head - although felt much better yesterday so decided to sneak out to Sainsbury's - can't believe as I was queuing up at the tills my MW was also in a queue a few tills down!!! It was quite hilarious for anyone watching me just managing to avoid her until I got out to the car park and realised she was parked next to me!!!

Can't believe it's weekend again - despite the boredom the last week has flown for me - maybe something to do with the fact that I have my 20wk scan next week so starting to get a bit nervous and freaked out at the prospect. Have you got yours too MrsJ? Are you feeling like me or taking it all in your stride? If one more person tells me to "stop worrying - everything will be OK" my hormonal urges may just get the better of me!

johnworf · 16/05/2008 12:37

hiya babycakes sorry you're still on shopping duty bed rest. Hope the headaches disappear soon - they're awful aren't they?

Not sure if my bum has sprouted hairs. I find it hard to see beyond my boobs these days. If I can't see it, then it doesn't matter. I can manage to shave legs to almost the knee area, but after that I'm wearing hair capri pants.

What a great idea getting DH to look up your undercarriage! If I asked mine he'd only get the wrong idea and probably whip his pants down in anticipation

Is your blood pressure getting any better btw?

As for your 20 week scan, I was losing sleep the couple of days beforehand so I know where you're coming from. My LO had every bad thing you can think of on Google. When I in the scanning room I literally wanted to look at screen, hands over face with little gaps between fingers. Turned out to be a joyous occasion and I'm hoping for you that the time will pass soon and you'll have it over and done with and come out smiling

mrsjupiter · 16/05/2008 12:42

babycakes, yeah my scan's on Tuesday and I my feelings are 100% in tune with yours. I'm a pretty anxious person about the health of my nearest and dearest, (though not about my own strangely) and that's magnified with the baby.

Since I first felt the baby move last Friday I've been incredibly stressed out when I don't feel it move, which sometimes is all day. I'm pretty sure this is exacerbated by the fact that we're sitting on our arses (hairy or otherwise) for days on end with little else to do except worry.

I'm a little more manageable than I might have been because I had that scan after the bleed at 17 weeks so I know the baby's got the right bits. My husband gets pretty worried by my negativity and reminds me that the 20 week scan is only among the first in a long line of the endless worries of a parent, and that I've got to find a way to not go crazy.

He's also very good at reminding me a) of the power of positive thinking, and b) that we can get through whatever happens.

He's pretty useful as it goes.

jeanjeannie · 16/05/2008 12:49

Tressy! That's it....I had one but cut off her hair myself....thinking it would grow back...not the brightest child eh! Anyway she was soon superceded by Action Girl because she had a horse. I was a pony crazed child of the 70s...and each year WHSmith used to run a 'Win a Pony' competition....entered each year - only to be disappointed Imagine that now...what the heck would you do if you won it...? Eat it?!

Glad you made it to Sainsburys babycakes....and keep us posted on the 20 weeks scan.

Bump is so uncomfy now and managed to pull a muscle (if i have any left) down the side, getting out of bed for yet another loo trip. Feeling V sorry for myself. Have no cake, no biscuits to munch either....sulk.

pwcbird yep you win geek man award...I was lol@ the tanks story. Although johnworf yours is clearly the geek to have if he's into making money....clever boy. I think mine would make money if he didn't spend it all on new tools...which he simply 'must have'!

DD has woken up in foul mood after just 20 mins nap. Hate it when that happens....robbed of my lunchtime peace

babycakes26 · 16/05/2008 13:06

Thx JW and MrsJ - you so crack me up JW - just had a huge giggle at the bending over! Think my DH similarly thought all his lucky stars had come at once haha! I am doing my best to park all thoughts of negativity and try and forget about the scan at least until Tuesday now - I may allow myself one day of complete stress the day before!!

Glad you are enjoying the baby movements MrsJ - mine seem to have calmed a bit although still feeling flutters at night which is so lovely

My BP was down yesterday JW to 121/82 so hoping it was just one of my mad hormonal surges that sent me into overdrive last week - I did feel wound up like a coil for no reason at all (came out of blue)which probably also explains the 24/7 chronic headache I had for about 5 days - things are better on that front too now thx!

What time is your scan on Tuesday MrsJ? I'll be thinking about you and everything crossed for you honey x Mine is 11.00am Wednesday....

Off to fill my face with a BLT - first one I have fancied this pregnany strangely enough - lots of advocado too - my current pregancy food fetish - can't get anough of them!!!

Can I ask a quick question btw? How much weight has everyone put on in pregancy so far? I was overweight to start off with at 11.9 and have so far put on 6lbs.....just curious.....is this good/bad as no idea....sure it will be a 3rd trimester fat fest for me as my strawberries with Ben & Jerry's fetish seems to be kicking in too!!!

babycakes26 · 16/05/2008 13:08

Hey JeanJeannie virtual cakes and bisuits being sent your way!!!! I've enough here to fill a small pregnant army Ouch on the muscle - hope it eases soon.....

johnworf · 16/05/2008 13:45

OH OH OH...purlease don't mention my two best friends: Ben et Jerry I have had to cancel seeing them lately although I did sneak a mouthful in last night (of ice cream, not of Ben nor Jerry). But this is top secret so shhhhhhhh

I've lost 2 kilos so far. Not surprising really as I am only allowed moon dust and fairy wings to eat. I wasn't a perfect 10 to start with so I'm not complaining. I'm like a camel but hump is at front

I'm wishing both of you girls all the very bestest of luck in the world for next weeks scans - not that you'll need it as your babies will be perfect

mrsjupiter in my moment of paranoia at 18 weeks when I didn't feel baby move for a whole day, I rented out a doppler for the month. It's going back soon but I found it very reassuring to put it on tummy and listen to heartbeat

jeanjeannie · 16/05/2008 14:40

babycakes cheers for the virtual sweet treats. I have NO idea how much weight I put on this time round- too darn scared to look. Was always a size 10 in my previous life.....those clothes are in the loft...I suspect I'll never been seen in them again Love the fact that my midwife doesn't believe in weighing mums-to-be...that's license to eat as far as I'm concerned I know that I couldn't get DPs pants on the other day - thighs too tight so I just blamed the swelling from the heat. And there was a good reason i needed to wear them.

Maybe a moon dust and fairy wings diet is what ....but no...heading off to the new Wagamamas tonight....Mmmmm, dumplings. MMmmm, noodles

Good luck for your scan too mrsjupiter tis hard not to worry....i'd make a business out of worry if I could! x

msdynamo · 16/05/2008 19:41

Yum, Wagamamas! Only earlier this eve was just fantasizing about number 42, Yaki Udon, and some fried prawn dumplings. Instead, after a long hard days work all I've got is a steak in the fridge, one day past it's sell-by date, which normally I'd have risked but because I'm up the duff I can't, so the dog's getting it. Sigh. Thinking about the home-cooked meals I was promised by BF. Grrr.

msdynamo · 16/05/2008 19:46

BTW, my favourite treat of the moment is pancakes with bananas and maple syrup

As for weight gain, I've already gained 3 lbs, and I'm only 8 weeks. I see pregnancy as a license to eat everything I've denied myself for the past twenty years! See, finally I've discovered the one joy of pregnancy!

johnworf · 16/05/2008 20:22

msdynamo I thought that when I got pregnant - eat all you like. Unfortunately that one came back and bit me on the arse

I love udon. Not had it in ages though.mmmmmmmmmmm
