10 out of 10 jeanjeannie - Cairo it was. Trying to chill re the bleeding, and to be honest I've been reassured that it's not the placenta anymore as it was at the start, but as you say it's just odd and I think is part of why, deep down, I don't really believe that I'm pregnant (despite the rapidly expanding bump and the myriad of scans). Trying to protect myself I think.

Actually, there was a bit of a challenge to that mindset this morning - I felt three distinct little taps. I was so surprised I gasped and it was over so quickly I'm now wondering whether I was dreaming.

On a lighter note, am experiencing some disappointment that my boobs have not grown. I thought it would be the one time in my life that there would be "more than a handful". Can anyone reassure me that I may experience a late surge?!

johnworf · 08/05/2008 07:56

mrsjupiter just wait until your milk comes in. They'll expand to unbelievable proportions!

mrsjupiter · 08/05/2008 08:15

johnworf so I've got a bit of a wait ahead of me. Oh well. It's just I remember my sil who is also challenged in that department - her boobs entered the room quite some time before she did all through her pregnancies.

pwcbird · 08/05/2008 08:31

morning ladies. I remember thinking that my boobs got big when I was pregnant 1st time and then when I had ds and milk came in I realised it was nothing. They were ginormous and was rather wonderful actually as they gave me a sort of hourglass figure (as I still had a tum from the baby but the boobs were so big it made me have a waist). Doesn't last though and then you just get two fried eggs

mrsjupiter how many weeks are you? must be so hard and sending you many positive vibes. My sister had to spend the last 2 months of her pregnancy with twins in hospital with bed rest as she had many complications and she was nearly mad with it. All was well for her though with a lovely girl and boy.

Off 'oop north' tonight to see DH's family for the weekend (I married a Manchester man). Any Manchester mumsnetters here? Is it going to be sunny?

wahwah · 08/05/2008 08:47

Just caught up with this thread and congratulations, Johworf-really pleased to hear about the scan and we're both having girls! As someone who breaks out in hives when I see pink, I've had a hard time getting some new clothes for this one.

Fortuna am still breastfeeding my 2 year old (more by accident than design - he is completely obsessed with my boobs, although has accepted that one is for 'babba'). I found it quite uncomfortable at various stages of the pregnancy, but it's all fine now. Looks as if I'll be tandem feeding for a while.

Anyway, must dash, weather glorious and I want to go mad with the housework before pottering in the garden. I'm becoming a bit superstitious and now have this irrational belief that if I rest, I'll give birth slightly early! Anyone else becoming crazier as their due date approaches, or just me?

ipanemagirl · 08/05/2008 10:31

Hello all and congrats to anyone new!

I've just had 20 week scan and all well, still don't know the sex but sure it's a boy for some reason! The picture we were given is adorable, the baby looks just like ds.

Am starting some part time work next week and have got to get some more non slob clothes!!! yikes!

johnworf · 08/05/2008 11:15

Congrats ipanemagirl ! Pleased that all is well with you and LO

Woo hoo wahwah. Think you're going to see yours a LOT sooner than mine though Actually it's nice weather to be nearing the finishing line. Not too hot. Us September mums-to-be and later have to get through July and August yet. Gulp!

pwcbird I'm in Manchester - born and bred although I did escape and spend two years down south in Portsmouth. Now I'm back though and yep, the weather is lovely, come on up!

mrsjupiter I remember mine being full of milk and thinking it'd be nice to see the floor. But once the milk calms down or you stop BF you're left with either fried eggs or spaniels ears You're in good company here, anyway.

ipanemagirl · 08/05/2008 12:33

thanks johnworf! I still can't believe it's true that this baby is coming! Still don't know the sex for certain but am convinced it's a boy.

Tiny bit sad because I know that deep down dh would LOVE a little girl. All his mates have had these ridiculously gorgeous girls lately. Actually everyone has had girls lately! I just want whatever it is to be well and arrive safely!

Am thinking about hiring a doula because I'm scared of being left on my own in labour... anyone else done/ or considering a doula?

babycakes26 · 08/05/2008 13:03

Good afternoon everyone!Just checking in to see all our news after a nightmare day yesterday spent in a hot and crowded hospital ante-natal daycare unit! Had my MW appt first thing in morning and my BP was described as way too high and I had a trace of protein in my weewee sample so my MW rang the hosp immediately and got me referred in for more checks and bloods. To be honest all the drama got me more worked up so I wasn't surprised when my BP remained high in the hospital. They eventually let me out after I practically begged not to stay in overnight as they wanted to keep me in for observation as I have been having bad headaches and dizziness last few days. Just waiting to hear from them on blood results as they said depending on these I may have to be admitted. All sounds a bit dramatic to me - my BP was only 135/93 at worst - has anyone had similar experience? LOs heartbeat seemed ok throughout all this...phew!

ipanemagirl · 08/05/2008 13:45

take care babycakes thinking of you, that is so stressful, hope you can keep as calm as possible. I have no experienc of this but feel as if high blood pressure is pretty common isn't it in pg?
All the best

mrsjupiter · 08/05/2008 13:50

pwcbird I'll be 19 weeks on Saturday. As you say I could still be in hospital and I am grateful that things are not so serious I need to be there as they were for your sister. I have a lovely Chinese cleaner who has upped her hours considerably to look after me and who has turned herself into a housekeeper, otherwise I WOULD still be in hospital in the absence of my mother, sister etc. She's ten years younger than me but does a really good job of mothering me! It's just unfortunate that when you're doing nothing it gives you lots of time to fret.

What with all the talk of spaniels ears I really wish I hadn't brought up boobs. My poor excuses are suddenly looking really really attractive.

Sorry to hear about what you're going through babycakes- hope you manage to stay out of hospital. It's so true that all the attention makes an anxious situation worse.

johnworf · 08/05/2008 14:01

babycakes take heart from one who knows about high b/p . If the worst comes to the worst they'll monitor you over 24 hours as one or even two high readings isn't enough to confirm high b/p.

It sounds like 'white coat' high b/p mixed with hot weather which will probably calm down once you're back at home, relaxing with your feet up

Fingers crossed for you anyway, and glad the little blighter is doing good too

johnworf · 08/05/2008 14:03

mrsjupiter I knew you'd start to feel better about yours once you'd heard about ours (laughs to herself)

Just imagine how my DH feels.......... hehehe

babycakes26 · 08/05/2008 14:32

thanks lovely ladies - no news from hospital on bloods yet so hoping that it was a false alarm and all is well as they said they would only call me if anything showed up

Lovely day isn't it - off for a rest in my hammock in the shade to get some fresh air -work on hold today on docs orders

Thx Johnworf your message made me feel better x

Loving the boobies debate - I am laughing sitting here looking at my spaniel's ears (I have a King Charles) haha.

pwcbird · 08/05/2008 15:24

Mine are like fat spaniels as they've plumped up with the pregnancy but are still very much facing southwards Ahh me, I remember my youth when they pointed to the sky and I wore tiny bras with just one hook virtually, no support required. Oh well, that was a lifetime ago....

jeanjeannie · 08/05/2008 17:15

NO...!!! Stop with the boob talk...I'm sobbing and laughing at the same time. Mine look like tennis balls in socks... and they're now plumped up to a 36E pwcbird I too had teeny, pointy boobies....lovely little bras..never more than a 34b....sigh!

congrats on happy scan news ipanemagirl babycakes - sounds very stressful...hospital environment doesn't help either....you stay in that hammock

wahwah - I totally agree about pink - you're just faced with loads of the stuff. dd has red hair and pink just looks wrong - it's all just sooooo fluffy! And it's all the expensive stuff that comes in the nice colours....grrrr.

Just had hair cut....getting into the pre-baby vibe....must do things before it hatches! DPs beauty training soon (he'll love that!) shall teach him to paint toe nails and do bikini line next

pwcbird · 08/05/2008 18:34

jeanjeannie I wish you luck with dp's beauty training. I once, on holiday, got my dh to paint my nails and he went at it rather like some diy paint job as if he was painting the skirting board or something. It was not a success. He does do a very good shoulder and neck massage though so he's not all bad in that department.

Hope you all have a good weekend ladies and that the sun shines. I am away to the north and back sunday night x

Fortified · 08/05/2008 19:58

I'm reasonably well endowed usually, though don't pass the pencil test anymore! Now up to a DD, with a bump shelf to rest on so not droopy either! I'm remembering the state they were in when I first started b/feeding dd - all hard and lumpy. Anyone know if it gets any better the second time?

Hope bp sorts itself out babycakes. wahwah I'm afraid the housekeeping urges seem to pass me by. My Mum's coming to stay tomorrow, so I have to do some emergency cleaning this evening. Not looking forward to it!

johnworf · 08/05/2008 20:17

babycakes I've got a cocker spaniel and I know what you mean!

As for the pencil test, I mentioned to DH never mind the pencil I could fit a whole pencil case under there I just hope that this poor baby doesn't have to hover around my knees to get some milk!

pwcbird I would love my DH to paint my toenails - as I can't get down that far anymore - but it would just look like one long stripe across the top of all my toes......oh, and enjoy your time oop north :0

mrsjupiter · 09/05/2008 03:14

Fell asleep clutching assets protectively,

I know I'm going to regret asking this, but what on earth is the pencil test?

johnworf · 09/05/2008 07:03

Aha! mrsjupiter Well, they do say that if you can put a pencil under your bust and it falls out, means you've got nice, pert boobs.

If however, like me, it stays there, sure sign they're heading southwards

ipanemagirl · 09/05/2008 08:03

feeling ENORMOUS at the moment and woke up wondering "I wonder if anyone is so scared of being huge that they start dieting around 21 weeks?"

Of course dieting in my terms just means eating enough for one + LO instead of eating enough for four soldiers doing SAS training in the field.

How much exercise are other people doing!?!?

Got my hair painted the other day phew - (darker not lighter so apparently ok for LO) and look a little less ancient than before!!!

ipanemagirl · 09/05/2008 08:04

Sorry to add to the assets debate, mine gone south now too!!

pwcbird · 09/05/2008 09:16

Greetings from Manchester.
Just wanted to say that I could probably put a kitchen roll tube under my boobs and it'd stay there!

mrsjupiter · 09/05/2008 09:40

Re pencil test - I don't think I have enough raw material to ever droop so far! Seriously. I'm quite sure the test wasn't designed for girls like me.
