I'm asking for a friend, if you believe your dates make u 11 weeks gone, but then you have bleeding and go for a scan and they tell you there is no heart beat and the babies measuring only 5 weeks which means that A, she has her dtaes wrong, or B, shes lost him weeks ago. What would you think? it doesnt look good does it? Im not sure wether to reassure her, and risk making her fall harder or say nothing just give sympathy?

If your friend is sure of her dates then sadly she may have lost the baby. Its whats called a Missed miscarrige. This happened to me last year and i was devestated. Its also happened to a few of my friends too. Sadly it is quite common.
All you can do really is be there for your friend and give her a shoulder to cry on.

I would guess the most common thing is that the baby sadly stopped growing, but its also possible that she fell pregnant a month later than she thought and this is implantation bleeding.

I think probably lots of sympathy and preparing for the worst is the way forward. Poor her.

Thanks girls, i feel so for her, the hospital have said shes to go back in a week to check if the baby has grown any, is that standard practice?

Yes they do that just in case she has got her dates mixed up. I dont even know your friend and feel really sad for her. I remember the pain of my MMC.

Thanks MN, wasnt sure of the procedure, i was concerned about her getting an infection or something if the baby no longer alive, but i guess they know what they are doing

You can offer your support without offering false hope. She will likely be swinging between the two anyway, herself.

I had a missed mc - baby stopped developing at 8 weeks, discovered over 11 weeks.

My SIL, weeks later, went for a dating scan at 9-10 wks (her dates) and they found nothing! A week later, they found a heartbeat and dated her at 5-6 weeks.
