PAPP-A results low, should I be worried?

Just found out from badger notes that the screening tests I had done at my first scan, 13 weeks, has come back that my PAPP-A is low at 0.38. The chance of Downs, Edward's and Pataus is low. Should I be worried?

I’ve just had the same results, low chance of Down’s, Edwards & Patau syndrome but PAPP-A MoM of 0.40. I don’t think there is a significant risk but I know it can cause low birth weight, both of my daughters were quite small at 5lbs 12 and 6lbs so it doesn’t surprise me. I’m not sure of the other risks. I’m sure everything will be OK. Have you had your 16 week appt yet? Perhaps discuss with your midwife for reassurance :) x

I had a call to say I had low PAPP-A after my 12 week scan. My reading is 0.24. Essentially it just means you are at higher risk of low birth weight and of developing pre-eclampsia, as it means the placenta can be smaller. I have been started on aspirin and am now under consultant led care. Will see the consultant for the first time at my 20 week scan. From my understanding at the moment they will just be keeping a close eye on things so extra growth scans and they will do a doppler test of the placenta at my 20 week scan to check the blood flow etc to it then.
I have felt slightly worried about it, but its essentially a case of waiting and seeing how things go and being closely monitored. I have joined a group on Facebook and on there I have read plenty of positive stories where babies haven't been affected at all and have been born at 'normal' birth weight. The other thing I've been told is that I'm likely to be induced at due date and they probably wont want me to go over due.
Hope that helps, hopefully your midwife will be able to give you more info too, although your reading is very borderline, I believe the cut off for being classed as low is 0.4 and under.
