I was thinking today, about all the weird things I've encountered while being pregnant. By weird I mean, smells, change of taste, cravings etc. and I know there can be some pretty wild one's!
One of my friends sisters had an obsession with chewing on sponges (didn't swallow them)... so thought I'd start a thread for fun for us all to share ours 😂

I'll start :

For the first 15 weeks of my pregnancy, EVERYTIME I showered I swore the water smelt like beef. It was Only ever the shower water.
I kept complaining to my husband about it only to realise it must have been pregnancy related. I no longer smell it now! (31 weeks) 😂

Chocolate tasted like ash

Singleandproud · 12/10/2024 22:03

I had HG and the only thing I could stomach for most of my pregnancy was Heinz tomato soup .... Dd has hair the same colour of said soup (obviously has nothing yo do with my Irish heritage and everything to do with Heinz 😉

Not food related but everytime I walked outside from the day of my 12 week scan to the day I gave birth my ears popped like being on an aeroplane.

With ds1 I craved pickled onion monster munch, which he now chooses as his favoured snack.

Ds2 was haribo....has been his favoured treat his whole life, although he is leaning toward the natural confectionary company jelly snakes now so maybe that disproves my <very scientific> rule

Izzabellasasperella · 12/10/2024 22:06

When I was pregnant with dd I ate a packet of cheese Doritos and a mint chocolate bar every day. To this day dd hates Doritos and anything mint flavoured!

Theunamedcat · 12/10/2024 22:07

The only thing I could reliably stomach with my second pregnancy was dark chocolate (in contrast to my first) ds haircolour was the colour of dark chocolate when his real hair grew in he was blonde 😂

My husband smells like deep heat, sometimes along with smoke. Doesn't smoke, doesn't use deep heat for anything, very strange. Second pregnancy and the same.

Pocketfullofdogtreats · 12/10/2024 22:12

I ate the heads of matches.

Tea made me feel a bit sick but one day I actually threw up on my desk at work after a cuppa. Oops!

Gonnaenodothat · 12/10/2024 22:28

Oh I was like that with sponges!! And I loved the feel of brushing my teeth which sounds weird but I just loved the feel of the bristles on my teeth I'm surprised I had any enamel left after lol. Could not stomach chicken on the bone it made me heave!!

IHaveNoMoreFucksToGive · 12/10/2024 22:32

I couldn't fill my car up with petrol, vommed all over the forecourt
Ate raw mushrooms with the 1st one
He hates mushrooms in any form

IceStationZebra · 12/10/2024 22:39

I loved chewing sponges and clean wet washcloths too. Still do it sometimes.

I had a strong aversion to mint, could just manage brushing my teeth but chewing gum was a big no, despite being a several-packets-per-week type prior to pregnancy.

Lelophants · 12/10/2024 22:41

Oh no. The sponges. For some reason I don’t like that. 🤢

I was weird with lettuce. Made me feel so sick .

shellyleppard · 12/10/2024 22:43

My auntie used to suck on a piece of coal.

EinsteinsFineWine · 12/10/2024 22:46

We moved house when my youngest was 4 and I cleared an old toy cupboard out. In it I found a brand new chalk board, but no chalk. I wondered vaguely why there was no chalk, and then remembered - I ate it all, the whole box, when I was pregnant.

They were knocking down a block of flats and I used to want to go in there with a spoon. I would be drooling at the thought of eating the brick dust and plaster. I found a newly drilled hole in a cupboard and used to wet my finger and roll it around in the brick dust and luck it from my finger.

Maraudingmarauders · 12/10/2024 22:46

For the first 6 months I was convinced the fridge had something rotting in it. I even made a friend come and sniff it because I thought my husband was lying that he couldn't smell it.

At 39 weeks my face became paralysed from bell palsy. I had to tape my eye shut at night.
Pregnancy sucked!

Aysegull · 12/10/2024 22:47

I couldn’t change my toddler’s dirty nappy without throwing up until I was 6 months pregnant. Probably should have pretended it carried on for longer in hindsight…!

I could only drink fizzy drinks. Until I gave birth, anything flat made me vomit.

I always smelt smoke and I still do.

I do miss being pregnant though. So tempted to have a third!

Attelina · 12/10/2024 23:46

With my son I craves hot and spicy foods. With my daughter I craved a Herbert and fizzy drinks.
