Baby kicks

Hi everyone,

I'm 24 weeks pregnant and feeling more movement from baby. Some days he's really active and I can see my belly moving from the kicks but some days he's really quiet, maybe the odd kick here and there but nothing major.

Is this normal? Or is it worth checking it out. I have a private scan booked for the end of October. (On every scan I've had they've said how healthy and active he is, I don't need to go back for another scan before birth but booked a private one for the 4D photos.) I also don't want to be that paranoid new mum, I know everyone's different but just wanted to check if people have had the same experience as me before.

Congratulations on your pregnancy OP

The official advice is to start tracking properly from 28 weeks. I'm told it's because before then, your baby still has plenty of space to move around into different positions and 'hide' which can affect what you feel/ how often etc, but in the 3rd trimester there is less space so movements should be much more consistent.

What you've described sounds normal but you're the mum to be and you know best. Always trust your instincts and get checked if you feel like something is wrong.

The official advice here is if you started to feel the kicks, than you can go to triage if you worry about the nature of the movements.

Lack of movements at this time is most likely to be caused by what the previous commenter said, but if you are worried it can be reassuring to hear the heartbeat.

I did go into triage at 24 weeks because I had the same experience and I am the worrying type. Everything was all right, the nurse was reassuring.
