Due dates

How do people know their child is due but before 39 weeks? I've read a few times "baby is due at 36 weeks" or "baby is coming next month" when they are 32 weeks. Am I missing something?

It would only be if there's a medical reason like being induced for gestational diabetes for instance.

Planned c-sections are often before 40 weeks.
