6 week scan - faint fetal pole

Hi all, just been for an early reassurance scan at 6+1 weeks and at first she was struggling to find anything other than an empty gestation sac measuring 6+3 weeks. She eventually managed to find a faint smudge/fetal pole which had a slight flickering heartbeat measuring at 5+5 weeks but again it was very, very difficult to see. I know it’s super early and we risked not being able to see anything but I was wondering if anyone has had a similar experience before. She didn’t give us a reason as to why the fetal pole was so faint. I’ve uploaded a picture, it was a little easier to see on the screen but not much more. Could it just be hiding?

I was 5wks+4 days and they couldn’t see anything other than that I was pregnant. He is currently running around the house getting into mischief! It was so hard waiting until my 12 weeks scan but there he was wiggling away

I had an internal scan at 6.3 and there was no fetal pole at all (that they could see), sac was measuring 6.0 so still should have been something there. They told me my dates may be wrong or MMC. Went back at 8.3 weeks and they confirmed all was well and I was measuring at 8.3.. I would think seeing a fetal pole and a heartbeat is an excellent sign all is well

Thank you both, both stories are very reassuring. Since doing my research it sounds like it is quite common not to see anything at 6 weeks other than a sac, it’s just that the sonographer wasn’t reassuring at all and sounded worried, hence my worry. We have another scan booked in a few days so hopefully will be able to see a little more. This is an IVF baby after a previous MMC so my anxiety is just through the roof!

Thank you so much for this. It is so so hard to deal with, knowing that even if everything seems okay it really might not be. We have our next scan in a couple of hours and I’m a complete ball of nerves!

UPDATE! We have just been for our scan at 6+5 weeks and we saw the baby bright as day measuring perfectly and a strong heartbeat!! So so happy and relieved! Thank you for your reassurance x
