Hiya,
I’m 10 weeks +2 days pregnant and I haven’t gained any weight. I have been throwing up a lot
so it might have something to do with that. But should I not have gained even a bit of weight from the umbilical cord etc? I need a bit of reassurance!

Nit in my experience. By 10 weeks with my first pregnancy I had lost about 7 pounds. I had lost a stone in the first 12 weeks with my second.

Mrsttcno1 · 06/10/2024 11:27

No honestly everyone is different. You’re still very early and especially if you’ve been being sick it’s normal to not have gained, I also lost weight in early pregnancy due to sickness but had definitely gained by the end😂 congratulations x

Catopia · 06/10/2024 11:31

Not necessarily surprising if you've been throwing up a lot, but I would contact GP as some sort of anti-emetic may help both of you by keeping some food/nutrients in.

SnapdragonToadflax · 06/10/2024 11:36

I lost weight in my first trimester from nausea and sickness - not sure how much as I didn't weigh myself but I'm visibly slimmer in photos around week 15 than pre-pregnancy. Once the nausea passed around week 20 I gained weight normally.

Redcrayons · 06/10/2024 11:42

I lost weight in my first trimester, everything made me feel sick. The nausea definitely stopped and i started eating normally. I was actually 3 stone heavier than my booking weight on the day I had my c section.

Greymalkin12 · 06/10/2024 11:47

In 19 weeks and at least a kg lighter than at my booking appointment. I have a bump, the rest of me is looking a bit slimmer though! Within reason the baby takes what it needs from you.

ButterAsADip · 06/10/2024 11:49

Your baby is like the size of a lentil or something and you’ve probably lost what it plus all the water, placenta etc weighs, from all your puking.

Moomin37 · 06/10/2024 11:51

I lost a kilogram in the first trimester as I felt so sick. It was another month before I had gained it back and overall I was only just over 2 kg heavier full term compared to the day I found out I was pregnant.

Noshowlomo · 06/10/2024 11:55

I’d lost by this point due to all the puking. Baby will be growing though !

I was so sick throughout pregnancy I gained hardly anything, baby was fine I weighed less after delivery

Btowngirl · 07/10/2024 18:04

Raise with your midwife if you are concerned! Everyone is different but I didn’t really gain any weight until after 20 weeks, I was also quite sick. I’m 38 weeks now and gained around 6kgs, baby’s estimated weight was around 6lb 2 weeks ago so I think my whole 6kgs is baby/placenta etc.

WhiskeyInTheJar33 · 07/10/2024 18:27

I wouldn't worry too much about but mention to your midwife if you are. I lost several kgs in my first trimester from vomiting and just having no appetite. I stopped vomiting at 14 weeks and By 20 weeks I was back to the weight I was at my booking appointment. Since 20 weeks I've put on 3kg! I'm now 26 weeks tomorrow. It did worry me at first but the comments I've had from people is that I'm all bump. I haven't put much weight on anywhere else.
I'm sure you'll put a bit of weight on further down the line.

greengreyblue · 07/10/2024 18:30

At 10weeks? No you’re fine. It took a good few months with my first

user2848502016 · 07/10/2024 19:12

No you won't have done that early on, the vomiting will have balanced out any weight you might have gained from being pregnant.

Superscientist · 07/10/2024 20:18

By 10 weeks I had lost 4 kg in both pregnancies.
With my daughter I didn't reach my prepregnancy weight until about 18 weeks. I then started losing weight again in the third trimester when sickness returned. In the end I only gained a stone and was back at prepregnancy weight by 10 days pp. By the time I stopped breastfeeding I was very underweight and my body struggled, it managed pregnancy fine but 18 months of poor diet was too much. Baby was completely fine and took everything she needed! Do get meds for the sickness if you haven't already. If you are on meds and still struggling go back and ask for a different medication

Verite1 · 07/10/2024 20:26

I put on weight immediately with my first. Nothing at all with my second until I was about 14 weeks. Was very odd.

Negangirlxx · 07/10/2024 20:28

I’m 35 weeks pregnant, and exactly the same weight as I was at my booking appointment (around 7 weeks). My Midwife never said anything about it when she weighed me, so I presume there’s nothing wrong with it. I lost weight in the first trimester due to vomiting, and barely gained any back. But then, I’ve also not gone crazy with food, and if anything, I eat less now, than I did before I was pregnant.

Peonies12 · 07/10/2024 20:52

You wouldn’t gain weight that early on. I lost 2 stone in first trimester, that’s what I’d expect if you’ve been vomiting.

shakeitoffsis · 07/10/2024 21:01

I have had 2 daughters. I gained one stone in my pregnancies and I was never sick. It was great I didn't have to buy loads of clothes and I left hospital in my jeans.

Lavender14 · 07/10/2024 21:04

I wouldn't worry if you've been sick a lot op.. just make sure you're drinking a lot of water, taking good pregnancy vitamins daily and eating what you can. I lost almost 3 stone over the course of my pregnancy between hg and diabetes. Ds was over 9lbs. Your weight isn't always an indicator of baby's weight.

sel2223 · 07/10/2024 21:33

I'm 15 weeks now and haven't gained a single pound probably due to reduced appetite/ sickness.
