Period possible late

Sengland01 · 06/10/2024 10:51

Morning, I maybe over thinking this, but it's 32 days since the first day of my last period.

The amount of time between my last period and the one before that was 26 days.

I am sure it's not it's way. Am in my mid 40's so don't even think this is even possible naturally.

When would be the best time to take a test? Am having pains like my period is on it's way but nothing as yet.

Am getting a bit worried now.

Thanks

You are mid 40s... surely you know the time to take a test is when your period is missed?

Sengland01 · 06/10/2024 10:55

Goodness I know that. Saying as a cycle can be different time scales. Was just asking the best time to take a test for the best result.

Now... if your period is late the best time is to take a test now

Harriet1989 · 06/10/2024 12:17

I would test now, if it's negative now chances are you're not pregnant. You can start to get irregular periods as perimenopause starts so might be one to watch and other symptoms too. Good luck x

MyUmberSeal · 06/10/2024 12:19

Pregnancy is perfectly possible naturally at your age. There are dozens and dozens of threads on MN of people your age who are pregnant/have been pregnant. Do a test.

TheShellBeach · 06/10/2024 12:20

If your period is late, then a test will be positive if you're pregnant.

Gcsunnyside23 · 06/10/2024 12:26

There's always a chance if you're sexually active but also a good chance you're hitting menopause stage and that's causing changes in your period timeframe

Sengland01 · 06/10/2024 12:37

Thanks everyone. My mum passed away a few weeks ago as well so maybe late due to stress perhaps.

Will do a test tomorrow I think if not here by then.

So sorry for your loss. I'd say the stress would be very likely to affect it also

Sengland01 · 07/10/2024 10:38

I have done a test this morning and it's come back positive.

How are you feeling about it? I ask because in your original post, you said you were worried about the possibility of a positive test! You are certainly testament to the fact women in their mid 40’s can, and do get pregnant with very little effort. Take your time to think about it all.

Sengland01 · 07/10/2024 11:05

Hi yes am in complete shock. I am 45 soon to be 46 in January and the chances are extremely low at the best of times.

Will see how my partner feels about it. He said in the past he does not want any more children. He only has the 1 daugher and I have 2 boys.

So not sure how he is going to take it or even stay with me.

I hope he's going to be supportive.

Sengland01 · 07/10/2024 17:31

He said would prefer it if had an abortion, but would go along with what I decide.

So all in all not a great response.

Unfortunately at your age, you're quite likely to have a miscarriage anyway.

But if you don't, would you like to keep the baby?

TheShellBeach · 07/10/2024 17:35

You can also get a false positive when you're in perimenopause.

Sengland01 · 07/10/2024 18:21

At this point in time am not sure what is best. Will see the doctor on Wednesday and see what the risk factors are before making a decision.

Just to update, we are very happy with the news now. Had a scan on Saturday and am 8 and half weeks. Baby is doing well with a strong heartbeat and no concerns. Fingers crossed for the rest of the pregnancy.

Wow. That's a wonderful update!

I'm very happy for you both!

Aw what a lovely update. Congrats OP!

Sengland01 · 18/12/2024 16:51

Baby is now 15 weeks and we are having a boy. It's come back as low risk for down syndrome etc, which is amazing and baby is doing well.
