Hi all,
Just looking for a bit of reassurance really. I’m 17 weeks pregnant today and am beginning to feel nervous and really overwhelmed with the thought of everything. So much to sort before the baby arrives, lots of things to buy, childbirth, will we be good parents. Is this normal? Just feel like I can’t get excited as I’m just worried. We were trying so I’m just surprised I feel like this.

I think this is normal, don't worry! You do have plenty of time, I'd put a pin in buying everything you need until 34 weeks and just try to think about your baby, the happy times you'll have - in a few weeks you'll feel them wriggling around regularly and this might help? If you're struggling with low mood or anything like that do speak to your midwife, they can help. P.s. I'm sure you'll be a great parent, I think everyone worries about that to some extent and it's hard at first but you will find your rhythm with it!

Totally normal. Esp if its your first. Around now it starts to get real so you are bound to start having those feelings.

My general rule was to not start buying or thinking about things until about 24-26 weeks. That still gives plenty of time to sort stuff, paint nursery, buy everything etc.

When I felt like this I would say to my self 'everyone else can manage so so will you be able to'. There are loads of times that one feels the weight of responsibility and lack of experience with parenthood ;it is scary.
One point though, there is a huge industry around what you need to buy and how to be perfect parents. Ignore most of it. You need very little ; somewhere for baby to sleep, a car seat if you have a car , something to transport them in, nappies and cotton wool ,a couple of three packs of vests and babygros, some hats and cardis and some bedding. Shops and Amazon are available for when you know what you need and lists of requirements are ludicrous and wasteful.

Thank you so much for responding all! I’m definitely going to remember that saying @yikesanotherbooboo. I think because it happened so quickly and now I feel pregnancy is happening so quickly, I’m just freaking out from time to time. And yes FTM.

I am 28 weeks today with my first. I am so excited but have waves of feeling so nervous too. I know some people say wait to buy and i agree to an extend but for me I have purchased cot, draws ,travel system, next to me bed, new born grows, blankets and sheets. I buy a pack of nappies with every food shop and have a few other items. Some may say this is a lot at 28 weeks, yet my partner and I still need to build it all and I still have work until the end of the month but slowly getting things together and researching things I think has really helped me. Everyone is different and you have to do what works for you, but just know your not alone with your feelings as it's a big deal and it's nice you feel like it is really 😊 I still think alot about the delivery side of things as I feel nervous about this but got to keep calm and get through it x
